Howard met with his oncologist today and she recommends this treatment plan. He has several autoimmune diseases and his meds can’t be taken with the injectable form. As of right now we will start next Wednesday assuming his recheck with the surgeon goes well on Tuesday. Looking for insite of 5hose who have done this. He had primary bone hemangiosarcoma and had a possible splenic metastasis found last week. We are still waiting on histopath on it. If it comes back benign and unrelated we may go all in with injectable meds, but I worry about more harm than good for him.

I'm glad you met with the doc and have a good plan to more forward. Can you give more specifics on the treatment, like the type of drugs, dosages and quantities?

I’m not sure if the medicine she will use. I believe it started with a C though. Also Howard will be on Ladin to make him drink more. She stated this medicine can cause bladder bleeds if they don’t drink and pee frequently. He will also stay on Galliprant as his NSAID as well. Will update on Tuesday when we pick up the medications

It sounds like Cytoxan is the anti-cancer pill you'll be using.  Casey takes one on odd days (i.e. every other day).

Howard is on cyclosporine for an autoimmune disease that interacted with rimadyl. We have never tried Metacam. As far as I know Galliprant is a pretty new NSAID but I thought it did have antinflammatory affects. I will ask when we go back on Tuesday if we should try Metacam though

Good to ask. Simon was on Galliprant  and what specifically switched over to metacam because Galliprant  is not supposed to have the anti-cancer benefits that the other nsaids have.

No recognizable side effects, unless it's impacting his immune system; He's had a nasty ear infection (pretty common for Casey) as well as what I believe is a fungal skin condition.

We will be starting Howard’s chemo tomorrow. Got some bad news. The spleen was positive for hemangiosarcoma and he sent out samples from his liver, even though there is no visible tumor it also tested positive. So now we just try to slow the spread and keep him happy as long as we can. He still has no idea he is sick and begs for food all day.

Ouch!  Have you considered any herbal type remedies?  People swear by turkey tail mushroom extracts and powders, and they sure haven't hurt Jet.  Regardless, enjoy the time you have, and try to build some great memories so you can tell us the stories.

He is on turkey tail mushrooms and Apocaps . So far he is taking it all so much better than we are. He isn’t even acting sick yet which is great.

My goodness!  Jist catching up on Howard!  WOW!  What a roller coaster ride, for your hoomans, not you though!!

Howard is oblivious to all these tests and diagnostic sruff!  He could care less.  Howard mos feeling fine and that is all that matters!

As hard as timid, take Howard's lead and don't  let anything interfere  with the joy of NOW!   Now is all that matters.  Make each moment the best moment!  Howard is NOT  a statistic and is continuing  to be Howard.

Lots of spoiling, lots of treats, a couple of scoops of ice  cream...all very therapeutic .

And yes, lots of good results have been attributed to mushroom therapy .  I can't  remember all the specifics, but Nizon, a Greyhound, and Tex, another Greyhound , got good extended time  tjat the owner, in part, attributed  to mushroom  therapy .  So continue  to check that out.

CHEERING FOR YOU HOWARD !!

Hugs
