So right now we are on day 2 post op, and you guys I could not be happier!!

He whined off and on the first night, but I think it was more from the effects of the anesthesia vs pain. I had Fentanyl when I was in labor with my son and that stuff made me miserable. The next morning he was bright and alert, he got up and walked outside to pee without assistance! He also drank a bunch of water and absolutely inhaled some chicken and rice with all his pills in it!

He is totally chowing down food now. He hasn’t had an appetite like this for weeks. He’s also very steady on his remaining feet. I’m seriously shocked. He’s a very stoic guy, I’m thinking his leg must have just been so painful that having it off is such a relief for him. He also hadn’t been using the bad leg for some time so it wasn’t much of an adjustment to have it gone.

YAAAY! smiley_clapsp_hearticon2 This really made my day, I'm so hoppy for you and Luke! It's the kind of recovery we always hope for. Sounds like his pain is well managed, which is wonderful. What did he come home with besides the Fentanyl?

Keep him as mellow as you can, he'll probably try to do too much too soon, which is typical. There will be lots of time to get back to the new normal, right now just help him through the resting part of recovery and you'll both sail through it!

If you have any photos we would loooooove to see them!

I’ll try to add a photo here. Other than potty breaks I’m keeping him in an x-pen to keep him from moving around too much and also to keep my toddler away from him. He’s too young to understand his doggy can’t play with him right now.

Edit: darn it, not sure why that didn’t work. Photobucket isn’t letting me upload now either.

😀😀😀😀😀GRINNING EAR. TO EAR OVER HERE!!!😀😀😀😀   Lue is a RECOVERY  ROCKSTAR!!

Its hard to believe, but sometimes  dogs like Luke show us how much their leg hurt before surgery, by showing us that even major amputation surfery didn't  hurt as bad as that bum leg!!!

Now, he may, or ,at mot, ave a bit of a crash after  all the hospital meds and patch wear off.  Guess he also came home with Gabapentin,  Tramadol,  Rimadyl  and an antibiotic.

Luke had already nailed milestones  thst usually  take several days or more to conquer! Good job Luke!!!

Oh, and we call Photobucket  FUbucket around here.  If you get bored, just search photobucket (-or FUbucket) and you'll find threads explaining  why.    Photos that had been "hosted by bucket sll pf rhe sudden were deleted and bucket held us hostage requiring us to pay to have them restored.

Anyway, the techies will come along and show you how to,post ohotos.  If you start a blog you can use that as a base to,post ohotos.  Again, the smart techies will come along and 'splain!

Here is info for adding photos to forum posts

Instagram seems to be pretty photo friendly, Facebooger not so much, lol. Many of us will start a blog where there is a dashboard with a place to upload photo media. If you have a video, we save on storage by uploading to Youtube and then it can be posted here with the link that you create by uploading a video.

Way to go on Luke's recovery and welcome sp_hearticon2

Remember to right click on the photo once it's uploaded, then choose "copy image" OR "save image URL" and return to your forum post to paste the image or link back here. If you' like a tutorial just holler.

P.S. As Jackie mentioned, you can always start a Tripawds Blog for easier uploading and sharing. They are free, but supporters get way more storage space for images and video.

Also, one thing about uploading to social media and photo sharing sites, is that you never know when the provider will either go belly up, or start charging to access your images. We saw that happen a couple of years ago with Photobucket. Many Tripawds users had photos there, and suddenly Photobucket wouldn't allow them to be shared in "3rd party websites" like ours. All the photos for their Tripawds accounts disappeared, unless they paid a ridiculous fee. Whether you have a free or supporter blog at Tripawds, that will never, ever happen.

Thanks for the info on uploading pics. I will get it figured out eventually lol.

We are on day 3 post op and still doing great! He sleeps a lot (as expected) but when he’s awake he’s raring to go (definitely not expected!) Just trying to keep him from doing too much too soon and then crashing. The bruising along the incision is looking better today as well.

Also a bit of a random question for you all...whoever prepped him for surgery was a bit enthusiastic with the clippers, they shaved nearly the entire rear half of his body. Like all of his tail and everything, down to the skin surgical clip. I think that shocked me more than the incision itself. Poor fellow is looking a bit naked and odd. How long do you think before his hair grows back in?

Unfortunately it could take several months to completely blend in again but once sutures/ staples are out that seems to be when the process starts speeding up.

So.... now you can laugh at me 😉... I don't know if I've ever said this in here but I've thought it hundreds of times.  Getting a sterile surgical area is so very important to them not getting infection during recovery.  I was taught to make the best margins available for success in healing,  so when I hear people get freaked out over the amount of fur shaven I smile,  knowing that tech that prepped the area was thorough. Fur will grow back,  infection can make the whole procedure take a scary turn.  You can smile now when you look at his nekkid bottom 👍😘❤

Yes...I was one of those techsicon_lol

Ohhhh ueah, I remember  being shocked at how much fur was shaved.  I have to say though, apparently  not as much as Luke did!  I actually try and give peop6 heads up when they pick up their pups yo ve prepared for "clipper happy" shaving😉

Obviously Luke's Vet Tech used the "Jackie Shaving Technique"😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣  HOWEVER, we're glad the Tech used the "JST" to reduce risk of infection as much as possible😎  Smart!

Once the peach fuzz starts growing back and starts to cover the skin, you won't  notice it as much.

Pictures when you can!

So glad Luke is rocking his recovery!  A remarkable boy!

Aww poor Luke! He's nekkid! At least he's got a good recovery in his favor.

It really depends on the dog as far as when the fur grows back. Jerry's fur took three months to grow back. Wyatt's took about two. Kinda a toss up. At least it's warmer right now so he's not freezing his adorable butt off!

That brought me to a blog but I did not see a post yet. If you just finished it for the first time, it might require a one time "go ahead"... not sure. I would wait a bit if it is a brandy new blog and see if it needs a permission like when you first posted. Sorry I am not more help.

Hmm, it’s working for me when I click the link but maybe that’s because it’s my blog. Darn. I’m not tech savvy at all, but I will figure this out eventually 😂

It might not be you, it might be needing authorization OR have you actually made it live? It defaults to save as a draft but there is something you need to select when you want to go live with it. I think it is "publish now"
