It seems everyone has given great advice, I will just say that I remember the "two weeks of hell" and the way it tears your heart apart, and the lack of sleep making everything seem ominous.

She has had major surgery, so it will take some time to recover from it, I know if they hacked my leg off I would probably still be in the hospital.   Just know, we understand and we are sending you strength and courage and everything we can to help get you both through this.   My prayers for a better day are included 🙂

Let us know when you can how it is going,

Elizabeth and Sammy

P.S. Monkeybutt pirate, you make me smile....  but bad doggie!

Diagnosed with osteosarcoma in the right front leg 8/23/10,

leg fractured 8/27/10,

leg amputated 8/30/10

I couldn't begin to say how special Sammy is to us.  Living and laughing with and loving this wonderful boy is priceless.

Thanks everybody!  Now that he is off Gabaentin and his antibiotics we are definitely doing better!  Yesterday we went for a 10-15 minute off leash walk.  He loved it and felt great!  He is used to getting TONS of exercise so I think the licking is partially boredom....I think he is depressed from not doing anything.  I am going to wait until Wednesday to make a decision on Chemo.  If I think he will be OK as a Tripawd we will begin Chemo November 1.  I had to wait until Nov 1 because I want him feeling good for Halloween.  We will be dressed as Little Bo Peep and my two sheep.  The costumes are hysterical.  Anyway, I'm out of my "pit of dispair" today.  Thanks Everyone!

Levi was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma 7-7-11
Ampuversary 10-14-11
Lung Mets Discovered 1-4-12. Chemo seemed to not be working so we switched to Artemisinin and other supplements. In May, Levi developed a sinus infection and started having seizures. The cancer had moved to his brain. We let him go 6-26-12.

oh, we are so going to need to see pictures of that!!!

Glad to hear the pit of despair is behind you!

Hope he continues to recover well,

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!

One thing I will add, I noticed after Gus had his surgery, he was licking his other front leg ALOT more, made me wonder if he was having trouble with it but he never seemed to, just an observation I noticed and have noticed others commenting about it also. I think at this point I would watch, but it may be something you shouldn't let stress you any more than you already are, sleepless nights suck, don't they

My buddy Gus had a left front amputation on April 7, 2010 and lived a great life until July 26,2010

Good to hear you both are feeling better big-blink.

My guess is that you are right about the licking.  My rescue pug boy has a licking behavior problem.  We thing it developed due to neglect from his original owner; he was left alone a lot in a small carrier with nothing to do.  The licking behavior is much worse when he doesn't get enough exercise or play time during the day.  Hopefully as Levi gets more active the licking will subside.

And of course we will be waiting for pictures!!!!

I'm sorry I didn't see this earlier because I could certainly let you know that:

1) my Dakota is the King of Anxious Licking (it's true; he has a crown).

2) my Evelyn the Embarrassment Monkeybutt Queen Supreme pees on Dakota's bed every chance she gets. Poor Dakota no longer has a bed on the floor due to that. I'm sure it's a dominance thing, and since Dakota prefers laying on our front door rug to a bed, he's okay with not having a bed. But it pisses me off (pun intended).

Dakota licks the rug so much that we have lighter spots all over it where he has literally licked the color away. He also does that biting at the rug like a dog does when it has an itch. I seriously doubt that the rug itches, but Dakota acts like it's an extension of himself. I have quit wondering why he is like he is (the puppyhood from hell) and just try hard to distract him. But he is basically a happy dog, if a bit weird and misunderstood. He fits in well here at the asylum. clown

Shari

From abandoned puppy to Tripawd Warrior Dude, Dakota became one of the 2011 February Furballs due to STS. Our incredibly sweet friend lived with grace and dignity till he impulsively raced over the Bridge on 12-15-12.

Dakota's thoughtful and erudite blog is at http://shari.tr.....pawds.com/
