WOOHOO LACEY!! This makes everyone here so hoppy for you! Cheers to keeping that mean cancer away!
I'm glad you were able to have a conversation with your vet about the vaccine. Doing your homework always leads to the best outcomes when you make decisions with a vet who can help present information that helps you decide what's best for your pup. Once you decide, it's nice to feel a sense of relief, isn't there?
How cool you met another Tripawd! Bet Lacey was just the perfect ambassador to show them life can be pawesome on 3.
There is a great article I’ll list below on osteosarcoma and treatment BUT for some reason they want you to buy it. I read it on my wife’s apple account. If you can find it you won’t be disappointed. It led to more questions about the treatment they used. Basically dogs are ten more times likely to get bone cancer but because of this they are developing more treatments for dogs which will help people as well. They mention a high blood pressure drug.
Sorry if you can’t access it but if you can hope you find it useful.

It has been 2 months since I have updated? I think about this site often. Guess life flies…..
Lacey has her hair back where we removed her leg. She is just a normal energetic dog who still brings us the ball to throw. We love her so much. Of course we worry daily but I have nothing bad to report. She is the alpha dog and runs this place. In a few weeks we take her for a scan. Ugh….. I’ll post how that goes. I’m amazed at how well dogs adapt. You told me but I couldn’t imagine it could ever be close to normal. My wife was happy she made it to my birthday. I am so thankful for every day we have had and continue to have.
I really have no reason to complain to this point.
thank all of you for sharing and giving strangers support.
Hey there - so so soooo glad Lacy’s doing well.
I saw you posted on Riley’s thread about your interest in the ELIAS vaccine, and you probably saw his dad’s reply about the tumor sample needing to be taken from the original leg tumor?
I replied there about another immunotherapy option that might interest you and doesn’t require a tumor sample, but I wasn’t sure you’d see the reply there, so when I saw Lacy’s personal thread in the update list, I thought I’d quote it here as well in case it interests you:
@robid, Yes, ELIAS needs a tumor sample prepared before/during amputation in order for them to develop the treatment for your dog. However - hope isn’t lost! (As I discovered, also in your position, post-amp.) The Yale EGFR/HER2 vaccine is a cancer immunotherapy that does not require a tumor sample and your Lacy may qualify for it. You can learn more, ask questions, and discuss in this thread.
Admittedly, it has limited geographic availability, but seems worth at least looking into...

Thank you Natalie. We will check that out. Interesting they use the tumor, it makes a lot of sense. They are really coming along with ways to help.
Edit:::::ahhhh the Yale vaccine. We did ask about this with our oncologist. We chose to keep it in our back pocket after her experience with it. I didn’t recognize Elias vaccine….. thank you…
Wow! Two months? Incredible!
I'm so glad you came back to let us know life has been really good. Talk about the best birthday present ever to have Lacey back being the boss of the house!
Isn't it incredible to see how she is just getting on with life? No feeling sorry for herself or mourning the lost leg. She's a model for all of us.
Cheers to the new normal! May there be many, many more celebrations!
@Natalie_2, thanks for sharing your post from back then. So nice of you.
Yesterday we did a lung scan on Lacey. Both the oncologist and radiology tech said they see no sign of disease in her lungs. I am so grateful. We will check again after the new year!
Something our oncologist said and has been repeated here is every dog is different. Even though there are some tough stories there are some positive outcomes. She mentioned a black lab she treated 9 years ago and no sign of cancer ever since. The lab gets checked yearly now. I have some hope but know I need to enjoy every minute we have with our little girl.
I hope this finds some of you smiling with a little more hope and less pain. I really hope one day we all understand why!
Gosh, somehow zi missed her Happy teo month update and just now saw the ALL CLEAR xrays! YAAAAY!!
So thrilled to know Lacey is living life to the fullest . Seeing g her returning to jer energetic pupper who loves it when you throw her ball for her.
Thanks for sharing this great update. We love reasons to celebrate around here👏👏

PS. BTW, I like the way your Vet thinks.

WOOHOOO LACEY!!!! You did it again! Thanks for bringing us so much hope and pawsitivity.
I love your oncologist. She's so right, you just never know. With or without cancer, enjoying every day is why we are here, and spending our lives with these beautiful animals.
Thanks for the great news.
Last week Lacey had her quarterly scan and check in. MLK day last year was when we found out the bad news and again this year on MLK day she had a slight limp in another one of her legs. I was worried beyond belief. We went through her scan and found out she was just nursing a sprained knee and the scans for cancer came back clean in her lungs. I am so thankful to have her for longer after such a crappy diagnosis.
I hope everyone is managing whatever comes there way with these awful diseases and unplanned accidents that leave us al saddened and hopeful at the same time.
If I can help anyone please reach out.
You are a Tripawd a Tripawd RockStar Lacey! Clear xrays spectacular news!! Bummed you have a sprained knee, yet were are all glad it wasn't anything worse!!!
You deserve a cheesburger and a scoop of ice cream🍧🍔
