I'm so sorry, I hope the tramadol has taken effect by now. Yeah, that's got to hurt, poor pup. If she's still restless in the morning I would ask if there's anything stronger they can give her. Yes, short applications of ice (with a towel inbetween the pack and her skin) may help, a few minutes at a time if she'll tolerate it.

Keep us posted OK?

The bottle says 1/2 pill or whole pill every 8-12 hours. My vet said I may need to do a dosage every 4-6 hours. So she got a full pill at dinner and 1/2 at bed. She seems to be sleeping now. I hope to sleep! I teach second grade and we are short on substitute teachers right now, so work is definite tomorrow! A friend that lives two houses down has tomorrow off. I'm going to call him in the morning. I don't know if he will want to try and move her or take her out, but at least come and check on her. I may have him give her 1/2 pain pill too. My other two dogs are so concerned about her. It's amazing how they know. Now it's time for both of us to sleep...hopefully! Thanks everyone and I'll keep you updated!

Okay, sou ds like she's settled down a bit. And perhaps givi g the pain pills no longer than six hrs. apart will make a difference. I do hop your friend can co e check on her and give her the pain pill while you're at school. It's soooo much harder getting the pain back under control.if it has a head start.

Try And get some rest. I know you're exhausted physically and mentally! Kasey is one amazing pup, that's for sure! And you are an amazing human!!

Lotta' love to all!

Maggie had a MCT removed from her side about 6 months before her amp.  I was really surprised at how big the incision was- it went a third of the way around her chest!  I also thought that she was in a lot of pain, but eventually figured out that she was mad and a little uncomfortable because the incision itself was so tight. The incision line started at her left shoulder, when down and under her front leg and across her chest.  She hated anything around her chest. I tried putting tee shirts on her to keep her from scratching at the incision and she would sit and pout until I took it off (or I turned my back and she got it off herself).  That's when I figured out that she was reacting to the tightness of the incision.  She was off the pain meds in a day or two I think, once the incision was more comfortable for her.

I hope they got very clean margins and you get a grade 1

Kasey slept through the night very well last night. She woke up a few times and went right back to sleep. She did good today and a friend checked on her midday. I gave her half a pain pill before bed. Thanks everyone for your continued thoughts and advice!

That is REALLY good to hear. How's the incision area? Any swelling?

Yay for your friend!

It has some swelling, but it seems more red than anything. It looks like razor burn. She's licking it a little and I keep stopping her.

Ruh roh Kasey, watch out or the cone of shame will make a return. Eeeeek!

Feel better sweetie!

I feel that this incision is larger. Is there a way I can post a picture of it? A lady I work with gave me a dog cooling mat. She is partially blind and has a service dog. She gets these therapy mats for her dog all the time so she gave me one. It works kind of like the frozen gel packs that you put in coolers. I have it laying in the bed with a towel over it.  Kasey is loving it! I'm sure it feels good on her razor burn 🙂

Oh my gosh really? That's pretty big. Yes you can definitely post a photo, here are instructions. If you have challenges contact me and I'll post it.

Yes cooling mats are awesome! We've written about them in the Tripawds Gear blog.

Glad Kasey continues to do well. I think cooling mats are great....neither of my dogs do, however. I have 2 that nopawdy will lay on! Keep up the good work Kasey!
