Kasey will have her surgery to remove her second mast cell tumor. The tumor is in the same location of her leg amputation. Her leg was amputated a year and a half ago due to a mast cell tumor. She received steroid injections on Thursday to reduce the size of the tumor. The injections worked well. The size of the tumor reduced and it has stayed down. I will drop her off tomorrow morning. All I can do now is pray for a successful surgery and the results of the tumor to be low grade!

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

She's home but in a lot of pain! She keeps trying to get comfy but she can't so she keeps moving which I'm sure is making the pain worse. I gave her a pain pill at dinner and I can tell it's kicking in, but the fact that she can't get comfy is not helping. I don't know what to do for her when I go to bed. The actual suture site is bigger than I thought it would be. They had to go in deep to make sure they got enough margin around the tumor. Any suggestions for what I can do? It's just me here and the other two dogs. I have to work tomorrow. I have the cone of shame and a shirt the vet said I can put around her so the other dogs don't bother it.

When her leg was amputated they kept her overnight so I didn't have to see the first night of actual pain. This is horrible!

I am glad she is home.  What kinds of pain meds did they give her and if you think it isn't enough try giving them a call if they have an emergency number.  I am sure once she settles in she will rest.    I brought Sassy home the first night but she was so doped up on all the surgery meds that she slept the whole night I didn't though.

Maybe just try sitting with her and rubbing her back or ears.  Sassy always like that when she was in pain.  Did they suggest ice or anything?

She is on Tramadol (50mg) for pain. She only weighs about 24 pounds. I didn't think about putting ice on her. They didn't say to do that or not to do that. I know whey said I could when she had her amputation.

I remember one time my vet said one of the main reasons they kept dogs overnight for slaying way back in the day was because it was too hard for the owners to watch the first 24 hrs. of recovery.

Poor Kasey's surgical site is lrobably throbbing like crazy, PLUS, she's still co fused with all the anesthesia getting out of her system.

As Michelle said, just try and co fort and soothe her and keep her lain meds in her on a very consistent basis. You probably won't get much sleep tonight, or tomorrow night. Do you HAVE to go to work tomorrow? Do you have someone who xould check on Kasey if you do!

I KNOW this is scary and hard to watch. When it's just you and your dogs, it even seems scarier...I know! We are right here with you though, okay? You aren't alone!

How often did the vet say to give the Tramadol?

Okay, we'll be checking in for updates, okay?

Sending lots of hugs! Be sure and. B R E A T H E!!!!
