We bathed Tshuvah today for the first time since her amputation about three weeks ago.  With her hair slicked down I could see that the vet missed a staple from the incision site when all the other 3000 staples were removed 10 days ago.  Tshuvah and I are hitting the road first thing in the morning on our 3 day drive to Chicago, wouldn't you know it?  I hate to think of that staple still being there.  I'm sure trying to remove it myself is a bad idea, especially since Tshuvah spooks so easily these days, but in case there's some easy and obvious way of removing it that y'all know about, I thought I'd ask.  Otherwise it'll have to wait until we get to Chicago and find a vet up there.

Otherwise, things are going well.  I realized as I took Tshuvah walking out on the mesa today that she can't dig anymore, one of her favorite activities.  She loves to try to dig rabbits and prairie dogs out of their holes, but that's for the 4-legged.  But she did nearly manage to catch some weird desert reptile, some kind of cross between a frog and a lizard.  We were both very proud of her for that!

Beth with my beloved Tshuvah, 10 year old "TaosDog". Provisional diagnosis osteosarcoma on 6/10/10, amputation of left foreleg same day, firm diagnosis of hemangiosarcoma 6/24/10. Set free on 9/9/10.  Treasured forever.

I would probably wait until you get to Chicago...since it's been 3 weeks, some skin may have grown around it making removing it a bit more tricky 😛  (i don't know this for certain, so it's just a guess).  Have a super fun trip!!!

Have a safe drive to Chicago with Tshuvah tomorrow... I mean this morning (it's already after midnite, Florida time). Good luck with the removal of the remaining staple...

Home surgery is a bad idea, especially after three weeks! With it being there so long the best thing is probably to leave it be. If there's no sign of discomfort or infection you could probably just wait until you get back to see your regular vet. But, you should maybe call the office from the road to find out.

Travel safe!!!!

My guess is Tshuvah will figure the digging thing out; Harley eventually figured out how to dig with only one front leg.

I know you have a lot going on, but if you can squeeze a trip to Madison in for Gerry's Pawty on July 10th, we would love to see you!

(Sorry, I have no idea about the staple.  Probably best to see a Vet in Chicago to get it removed.  Hope it isn't bothering Tshuvah!)

Amputation on 11/10/09, due to Histiocytic Sarcoma in left elbow. Angel Harley earned his wings on 06/24/10.

Ya think?

Give it some time. Pretty soon she'll be digging for gophers like my pawsonal inspawration Moose (without whom this site wouldn't exist):

Have a safe drive! Let us know how things are going OK? We're thinking of you both.

Oh my, well with Moose as an inspiration I will definitely not give up on Tshuvah learning to dig, especially when we get to Chicago (tomorrow) and she smells all the great smells there.  I found a picture of the weird desert lizard she found out on the mesa in Taos the other day, it was a Texas horned lizard!  Check this out...been in Taos 11 years and never saw anything remotely like this before.  Leave it to Tshuvah!

Tshuvah has a string of new admirers all over Nebraska and Iowa.  At every hotel and rest stop she is besieged with love and hugs.  She was irresistible before, but now with her tripawd status, she is an absolute human magnet.  I'm almost famous, just being with her :))

Of course she has admirers all over Nebraska & Iowa, why wouldn't she?  It's tough to be so popular - ask Trouble.  She has friends wherever she goes.
