The vet was an emergency vet at the surgeons office. She said that she would speak to surgeon about his other front leg. They wanted him off tramadol so they could see if that was causing his sedation or if it was just him. He's still on Metacam. I def feel like his other legs should be X-ray bc it seems as though its difficult for him to get up now and when he first came home for a day and a half he was amazing got up and down like and old pro. I'm not sure of his weight. Pre surgery he was low 80's maybe 78 pounds depending on which scale. The last day he was on tramadol he had only 1 pill instead of 2. I know something isn't right with him he is so different then the other days. His movements aren't the same. She checked him from head to toe and the lump in his abdomen they felt on Wednesday wasn't there. It's frustrating bc I know that he is early in his recovery but I also know how well he was doing in the beginning. My gut is telling me something is really wrong bc even with the tumor destroying his bone and on no pain meds he was social and active and wanting his food and not wanting to be in crate. Sorry for the rambling I'm going to call vet again but not sure that I'm getting anywhere.

Oh, poor Marshall, I wish there was something I could do to help you, this is so frustrating for you. Stay persistent till you have some answers, and definitely go with your instincts, they are usually never wrong. I will say a few prayers for you and Marshall, and know everyone here is with you.

I called vet and am taking him back today. They agreed that he needs further testing. I was going to call his regular vet but I remembered her X-rays are done upstairs and I don't want him attempting a full flight like this even with help.

I hope you get some answers at the vet today. If you want your regular vet to weigh in, I'm sure that the vet you are seeing can share the X-rays with her. Remember...they are your X-rays, you pay for them!

Keep us posted...you're both part of our "family" and we care!

Hugs,
Carol

Oh my gosh...you are NOT rambling! We've all been there with one worry or another!

Good for you for following your gut and being such a strong advocate for Marshall!!

They WILL figure out what's going on and they WILL find the right solution to move him forward through this yucky recovery stage!! Keep in mind that everything ehcked out fne before surgery, so most of this is still just having a really rough time recovering from a major surgery! Remember, humans would still be in the hospital!

The leg thing...he's probably done "something" to it and they'll figure that out.. Can you imagine having one of your three legs "mpaired" while tryng to adjust to becoming a tripawd? Ouch!

Glad the fluid thing went away! YAY!

Leave no stone unturned....ask about appetite stimulate, fluids, urine, blood, fever, infection, stiches pulling on a nerve...anything and everything!!
Hang in there! You are doing a great job! You are! And remember, we are all right here with you!

PLEASE post as soon as you can! Take a swig of chocolate .....and wash it down with Marshall's tramadolclown

Love and hugs!! Tripawd healing power to Marshall works wonders!!!!!!!clap

Just here to offer our support for you and Marshall!

So glad you are taking him back to the vet to get a thorough check......he may have injured his other leg, or is having a reaction to meds or-or-or.......

Know that we are all here to support you on this journey.

Hi Everyone!!!! Thanks so much! Ok so lung X-ray was clear it showed an interstitial pattern. Not sure what that means???? Doctor wasn't concerned. Any experience with that? His blood work was overall good a few things high or low but nothing alarming. They gave me Gabapentin for him. He also examined all of his limbs and this Doctor isn't finding anything wrong with his front leg. I'm so happy that his lungs are clear. He said that he has some anxiety and needs to recover he thinks. He said something could be happening that we aren't seeing. I'm starting to think that maybe when he was on the Fentynal patch that he was feeling like superman and then once it was removed he didn't feel as well. It was about 12 hours after it was removed that he "hit a wall" and it seems to get worse each day. Does that make sense? I'm sure that I'm over thinking everything.

It's your job to overthink all of this! You're his mommy!

I'm happy to hear that the vet didn't find anything wrong. Maybe it is just "coming down off the drugs". It does make sense. Did the vet tell you how long it would take to get out of his system? That would be the thing to watch for...if he's starting to feel better once it's all out.

Keep us posted! We're all thinking about you!

Hugs,
Carol

So glad you finally got some answers on Marshall. I'm sure it gives you some piece of mind. What did the vet mean when he said, " something could be happening that we aren't seeing"? As far as pain meds go, I think each dog has a different reaction to them......some do well on and crash off, some almost do the opposite like my Polly. I usually cannot wait until she is off pain meds, she is way more subdued and depressed while on them.
Give your boy some more time and I think he will start feeling a lot better very soon. And like Carol said, keep us posted to how he is doing and our thoughts are definitely with you and Marshall.

Yay for clear x-rays!!!!!

Yes your thoughts definitely make sense, and yes, oftentimes Fentanyl withdrawals can have these kinds of "crashes." The amputation recovery is called a roller coaster ride for a reason, I'm so sorry that yours is so rough!

How about starting a journal and documenting his behavior? That way you can refer back to something when you think your imagination is running wild, and it's a great way to see how much progress he's making too.

He's still pretty much the same but yesterday he had an interest in a snow ball again. Yay!!!! During the Super Bowl he laid by the coffee table(which had food on it) and didn't even pick his head up. If he was acting like himself that table would have been cleared and ingested in one bite haha. He slept on his bad after that for hours out of his crate(I closed the crate once he came out to try to get him a change of scenery). As soon as I opened his crate he went back in and hasn't come out since. I opened it this morning to pet him and see if he wanted to come out. He stood up and I was all excited then he turned around and laid down. It's snowing hard here so hopefully once I get him outside the snow will perk him up. He has the most amazing bladder control!

Ohhh poor pup! I wish there was a "zoomie" pill for doggies! Maybe the snow is the trick. Try to stay strong and be patient with him, he'll get there. {{{{hugs}}}}

I gave him his breakfast and water in his crate still waiting for him to come out to go outside. He will eventually when he has to go potty.
