Just adding hugs and good thoughts for you and your very handsome Silas. Fingers and paws crossed for him and for you...come here any time you're overwhelmed. You couldn't ask for better support.

Deb and Angel Lexie* Diagnosed at age 13. Tried radiation first; wish we had amputated upon diagnosis (even with lung mets). Joined Club Tripawd April 2014 & Lexie loved life on 3 legs! Advice: Start physical therapy as soon as your vet clears it, especially hydrotherapy if available :-) See Lexie pics here.

And adding some more virtual hugs to yo and Silas.

This IS an overwhelmng journey! I also am the only human in Happy Hannah's life and "going it alone"...every decision...every aspect of care...every vet trip...every single thing is all on you.....probably the "decision making on your own" ranks up there as the "lonliest" part of the journey, befinning, middle and end. Vut what a privilege to be there for them!

You are still so early in recovery and you have to be exhausted...emotionaly and physically.....nerves are raw and fear can take over when there is no one to share your concerns with.....that's when those "thought bubbles" can realy get whacky!

But WAIT!! There IS a solution and you've already tapped iinto it.....and that's to stay connected to us!! We understand better than anyone.....and those of us "on our own" even get it better!

Don't try and do this alone.....come here ten times a day if you need to! YOU ARE NOT ALONE!! This journey is danuntng and no one should have to do this alone!! The early part of the recocery is very intense.....plus the stress of getting tomthispoint...the shock of the diagnosis...the decision to amputate...the treatment decisions..... all exhsusting!

You are soooooo incredibly strong and s brave!! You're doing great...you really, realky rez!

Just kow we are here...we care...and we understand!

Love and hugs!

Sally and Happy Hannah

Hi!  Silas is gorgeous!  Esp with a trim body, he'll excel.  Promise!  Side effects from chemo are usually days 3-5, so today may not be from the chemo.  Or, Silas could be more sensitive.  Did your onco send you home with Cerenia?  It's commonly given or offered after chemo for nausea.  We didn't have any side effects, so I'm kinda useless here.  What I will mirror, though, are the comments already made: could he be a little off b/c of the antibiotic?  It's still early days, too, in recovery.  You've made it though a rough few weeks, but there's still more to conquer.  For the first 3-4 months after Jackson's amp, he got EXTRA protein on all his meals.  They're building new muscles, after all!  What other foods have you tried?  If you eat a lot of fruits and veggies, try offering those.  It's stunning what Jackson loves: swiss chard, kale, brussels spouts, purple and sweet potatoes, string beans, sugar snap peas, carrots, apples, bananas, parsnips, beets, bell peppers, cucumber!  Don't offer grapes, raisins, or anything in the onion family...  Other folks here have pups demanding sardines, cottage cheese, cream cheese, tuna, cat food!

As for feeling alone...where in the country are you?  Maybe someone is near and can come for some support?

This business of fighting cancer takes a village.  Lean on us.  It's not the same as being THERE with you, but we're there in spirit and love.  Come back to update regularly.  Tell us the GOOD and the bad.  We're here!

(((HUGS)))

~Katy & Jackson

ACL tear in right hind leg 12/5/12 and scheduled ACL repair surgery 12/21/12. Pre-op xrays revealed osteosarcoma. Amputation 12/28/12.  Chemo (carboplatin) started Jan 10, 2013 and ended on April 5, for a total of 5 doses. He handled carbo like a champ!  No side effects.  We started metronomic therapy at his third chemo and have been also doing some holistic treatments.  He's a lively, playful 10 year old huskie-boarder collie and a very proud member of the Winter Warriors!  Our love. Our funny little guy!
