Hi all
Just wondering if any of you have experience of battling histiocytic sarcoma without chemo? Our Pancho is 12 years old - was diagnosed 2 months ago and is also now 2 months post rear leg amputation. So far he has shown no clinical signs of spreading ( and his chest and liver X-rays were clear at the time of his op). We elected against chemo due to his age and because our vet told us it was minimally effective against this cancer. However reading stories of tripawd heroes on here, it sounds like it can help. The vet has just found a subcutaneous lump he is worried about and we are anxiously waiting for biopsy results. Would love advice from histio survivors/ warriors! Thankyou!

Hi Claire and Panchito (love your name, you must have a lot of pizazz!)

My tri-kitty Mona had a fibrosarcoma. I'm not sure if it's similar to histiocytic sarcoma but, in cats, both can be produced by vaccine injections. Here is a website where a "leading vet" recommends anti-inflammatories:

http://felineas.....arcoma.htm

I also found a similar recommendation for anti-inflammatory use in Bernase Mountain dog at risk of histiocytic sarcoma:

http://www.vetc.....detection/

Perhaps these links can lead you down a path for further exploration for prevention of reoccurance.

After her amputation I took Mona to an integrated vet for chiropractic treatment. The vet also put her on Power Mushrooms to support her immune system. Have a look at the holistic/herbal links on this website, you might find something there.

All the best to you an Panchito the Histio-Warrior

So with the news you got today I would consider different holistic approaches to help maintain his quality of life. Always remember, prognoses and statistics are just that, they are all based on OTHER dogs, not yours. We have our fingers & paws crossed that Panchito will blow those statistics out of the water!

Hello Clare and Panchito,

Very sorry to hear of your struggles with the damn cancer. We have lots os experience (unfortunately) with hystiocytic sarcoma as Tahoe's was found in the right front elbow, hence amp. We did do 5 rounds on CCNU (lomustine) about 3 weeks after the amp and he had his up/downs due to the chemo. From the amp as well we undertook a holistic approach between different supplements (K-9 Immunity , etc) plus we worked with Dr Loops (homeopathic vet in North Carolina) from afar, using various remedies. Dr Loops helped us fight two cancers and we managed to have 17 wonderful months together.

Don't give up hope…look into the alternatives for Panchito (cute boy). As someone said on here long ago, there is no end date stamp on our fur babies butts.

Thinking of you,

Glad Tahoe's Dad chimed in. That pup sure did defy the odds!!

You might try checking out the Nutrition link...there are various links on there to different supplements, food, Dr. Loops, etc. There is also a link to Eisen's blog..but, for some reason I couldn't pull it up on my tablet, but Eisen did a homeopathic appraoch (I think anyway) and had great success!

And just a little reminder to yourself...as you're doing the research, done forget to stay in the moment with that adorable Panchito! It's such a blissfullly happy place!

AND....WE NEED TO SEE MORE PICTURES OF THAT CUTEY PIE...LOTS AND LOTS OF POCTURES!!!

Thanks Sally! Here are all of the posts in our Nutrition blog that mention Eisen. Keep in mind though that he had osteosarcoma. A great place to investigate your options, if you haven't already, is the Dog Cancer Survival Guide too.
