That looks like more than the scapula- it looks like part of the leg is still there.  I can see why you are concerned about her falling on it or it getting a pressure sore.  From what we see here even when the scapula is left the leg bone is usually totally removed.

I was going to suggest the DogLeggs site but I see you have already found it. Does she wear a harness? Maybe you can make something to cover the stump and attach it to the harness so it stays on?

Oh, and congrats on your son's wedding!  You have had a busy summer and fall!

Her removal was right at the elbow joint, so yes, she does have a little bit of her leg left. I have a harness, but she's not real keen on it. I think that the jacket on DogLeggs would be perfect, but it's going to be a little bit before I can shuck out that much money! Between her surgery and my son's wedding, it's a little tight right nowsmiley2 I'll try to figure something out for now.

Totally understand. Maybe a pair of ladies support hose with some padding shoved in that area might do the trick?

I became creative today and utilized and old bra! I cut one cup off and one strap. It was a padded bra, but I took a ladies popcorn sock, cut it in half then folded it, and sewed it into the remaining cup. I then strategically sewed the other strap into a better position to give it a tri-harness effect It's stretchy enough not to bind, but padded enough to provide cushion on her stump! Looks funny, I know, but she hasn't been able to get it off of her stub yet 🙂 It's thinking outside of the box until I can get the $ for a proper jacket 🙂 https://www.fac.....38;theater

Tamara, this is brilliant, effective and funny!!

I hope you that this works well and the stump fully heals. I seem to remember sometimes others bought devices that didn't always work for them so you might be on to something here. When I looked at the DogLeggs product which interests you it states it is "padding and protection for the remaining elbow in the forelimb amputee" so I believe it's to protect the remaining front leg. Perhaps you could contact them for a photo of it on a tripawd so you know its what you want. Maybe they would design one specifically for your needs.

Meanwhile you'll be able to buy bras of many colours from thrift stores.

All the best to you and your beautiful Holly. She's a real cutie.

Great work!

You could add some bling and tell people it is a tribute to those fighting breast cancer.

We do what we have to do for our hero's fighting cancer- and Holly doesn't care what it looks like smiley4

I had an idea in my head, so I just sort of ran with itsmiley4 It was cost effective and believe it or not, I think Miss Holly likes it! She definitely seems very comfortable in it! I was able to put salve on her sore spot and not have to worry about it being all over because she took her bandage off. I could see something like this being made out of compression material with a built in padded pouch, or even a lycra type material (something that has a lot of stretch).  The item on DogLeggs is custom made to each dog, so it's definitely an option, just out of my price range at the moment. We could call my Idea "Bras with a cause", lol.
Jerry, feel free to share it! Anything to help our fur kids!! I shared it with a Cocker Spaniel group that I belong to on FB already!

Yes I can totally see how this would keep her from getting to the salve, or it just rubbing off. And that she will tolerate it is a bonus. Brilliant!

I'll share this on the Gear blog soon. Thanks!

UPDATE!!!! Miss Holly is now suture and staple FREE!!!! He was not concerned in the least about the spot that she opened. I just need to continue with the salve to keep it healing well 🙂 They were impressed with my creation and agreed that it would help cushion the stub until it's fully healedsmiley4 Unless something drastic happens, she does not have to go back until needed. I do, however, have to take my other Cocker, Bubba, in next Saturday. I found a tumor in his mouth yesterdayicon_cry When it rains, it pours around hereicon_cry

I'm curious what is the salve you are using?

As for Bubba, stay strong and remember that not all lumps are cancer. We'll keep our paws crossed it's a B9 lump. Keep us posted!

Oh, she looks great!  About 3 weeks post op, right?  She looks strong, balanced, and she went up those stairs like a champ!

How old is Bubba?  I have found myself calling my 13.5 year old Pug boy Bubba recently, I'm not sure why except he seems to be a Bubba these days.  His name is Obie.

And we're all doing the Tripaweds B9 chant for Bubba!
