While my 9.5 year old Polli was on the operating table having a left front amputaion, I ordered the ruffwear harness .

I couldn't wait to get it because she won't do the stairs and we live in a large split (read: MANY STEPS!) We moved 2 twin mattresses to our den floor so that we can all sleep with her. Our master bedroom is 2 levels above the main.

Well, the harness came today...but ... Polli absolutely refuses to move with it on. I don't know if anyone has ever dealt with a greyhound that refuses to move, but it ain't gonna happen.

In my mind, it was the answer to all, since to ME it's a no brainer. I am frustrated but mostly for Polli. We had really hoped to move back to our bedroom without having to carry her up 2 flights of steps in addition to the steps leading to the house.

 Anyone else go through this?

We have never heard of this. Perhaps the straps are irritating the surgery incision area. That is why we do not recommend using the harness until all stitches are out and the wound has healed.

If you need to provide extra support on the stairs before then, we suggest using a soft towel slung under the belly.

Once she has healed, the straps shouldn't bother her so much. Try it on her then but don't force her with it. Just leave it on her so she can get used to it.

Thanks for letting us know and please keep us updated.

No, her stitches are desolvable and vet said it was fine to use.

I posted this on Greytalk as well and found that  other greyhound  owner  this for their hound, so refused to walk.

Greyhounds do something called"statuing". Being a tripod I am not able to pull a bit.

We will give it a few more days, however i think polli has made her decision. We tried again today. No go. As soon as we removed it, she hopped out the door and did her business which was a major business if yow know what i mean. She was willing to hoild it rather than wear the harness.

Sigh. Oh polli- we are trying to make to make things easier for you! (and us!)

Wow, interesting. Good to know this about how greys can be stubborn. Thanks for sharing!
