Fuzz had his surgical consultation today with the most amazing specialist Dr. Padgett today.  Dr. Padgett specializes in cancer surgeries/amputations.  His exam takes place sitting on the floor  where he stayed the entire 40 minute appointment and playing with Fuzz and letting Fuzz do his thing which was very Fuzz like ( roaming around, flopping on everyone's lap, rubbing and purring loudly and displaying that even with his  bum cancer leg he can leap from the floor to the high counter in a single bound sniff around and then jump back down.  He was very knowledgeable and positive about Fuzz's amputation and outcome.  I was so much at ease after meeting my mind was made up and we scheduled the surgery for 9/20/19.  He assured me that he has handled many cases like Fuzz (complete cancer destruction of scapula) and Fuzz was ideal, healthy, active, happy cat for this type of surgery.  Of course in the back of my mind I still have the fear of him being depressed and not coming out of the surgery/amputation well and regressing or being super depressed/inactive or this cancer being micropscopic and having spread and comes back.  The post operative ICU care he will get for almost 24 hours and then come home is pretty thorough. I will bring him home the day after surgery. They ensure pain management is handled adequately and Fuzz will be sent home with a multi day transdermal pain patch, gabapentin (which they have him on now .5- 1 ml per day), steroid/anti-inflammatory medications and to keep him confined and quiet for a few days then start increasing exercise as tolerable with a return for staples to be removed in approx 2 weeks post surgery.  No dietary restrictions were noted.  I am only wondering about litter as I forgot to ask recommended type.. I plan on keeping him confined in my laundry room and even have left over potty pads to cover floor just in case from my lab that passed in April.    I am wondering what special prep advice does everyone have leading up to the surgery?  I know he is getting extra love and all the special food he wants!   My laundry room has only a couple small areas I need to plug up so he can't get in between/behind washer and dryer and block of counter from him trying to jump up. Other than that it is hard wood floor with rugs and fairly small but has room for him to walk around if/when he wants to. I have a cat bed but he likes blankets and his special box he sleeps in.  Pre surgery suggestions/advice?  And of course we as for your love, prayers and positive healing energy as Fuzz goes in for his procedure next Friday!
