Isn't there an oral Adequan that is administered after the injection?  Are you planning to do both?  Just curious.

I don't know.  I hadn't heard that but I wil certainly ask my vet.  I hate the idea of giving Emily the shots myself to save money (after the initial set of shots) but I am a firm believer that we can do whatever we have to do.  Doesn't this web site prove that?!  However, it might be easier to give it in liquid form.  Thanks.

Debra, Emily, and all

I have been have a little difficulty following all the discussions, so if I am late or misdirected just blame in on a very senior moment.  First, regarding the shots, one of my two white Stander Poodles ("The Girls" who were liter mates) developed diabetes so I had to give her daily insulin shots.  After giving Cassy her "real" shot of insulin, I had to put the cap back on the needle and go through the motions of giving Sandy a shot as well.  Back to the real point, it really was not difficult to give the shots, and considering the difficulties my vet had a few years ago when giving Cherry her annual shots, I would rather do it my self.  Trust me – it is not hard and as you said, we do what we have to do.

Regarding and earlier thread, I have and will continue to worry that my desire to hold onto Cherry forever may get in the way of doing the right thing when necessary.  I also know, that it will be this worry that will allow me to find the strenght when the time does come.  She has given me too much to make her suffer without a real chance of her enjoying life.  I have had them slip away (in my arms) from heart attacks, quietly not wake from a sleep, and had to make the decision that it was time.  I firmly believe, the you will know because you are so intouch with Emily.

As always, Paws Crossed, Sending Pawsitive Thoughts, and Rembering Emily in Prayers,

Bob & Cherry

I had you in mind when I posted about power mushrooms. Why don't you try them? Just for some extra energy, but a bit of extra energy can do wonders to conceal major limb problems (hip displasia, mets, etc).

It is funny that you say that because when I read your post I ordered some.  Even paying extra for shipping they wont be here until Friday though.  Yikes.

Emily is having a really horrible day.  She has some urine leakage the last few days so I bought some puppy pads to put under her and tonight she is peeing big time on them every half an hour or even more often.  I know that the pads have something in them that encourages puppies to pee on them so now I don't know if that is why or what is going on or if Emily has yet another new problem.

I was putting so much hope on the  Adequan shots and now don't know if she will live long enough to have them.

I have been crying all day and can't seem to quit.  I am trying not to cry in front of her but have to admit I have not been one bit successful. My son comes home from school in three weeks but I don't know if Emily can wait.

There are drugs that can clear up incontinence.  My last dog did well on one  Sorry, I don't know the name.  I left that stuff up to my parents back then.  I know it's scary and distressing all the same, and you and Emily continue to get a very unfair share of complications, so go ahead and let it out!  But this latest thing is probably going to be just fine.  You know I'm no veterinary expert, but I'm really really pretty sure about this.  (Hopefully that'll help til someone with expertise can chime in).  And by the way, you totally deserve a sick day to get some R&R, if you can do that.  Still praying for you, but to be honest my prayers are startin' to get kinda angry Oh My!

My Rosa was on Proin for incontinence for a good part of her life. Worked like a charm. I am so sorry to hear Emily is having such a tough time. Hang in there with her and don't forget to take extra special good care of yourself.

We will think of you both as we light our candles tonight. Sending you lots of healing energy,

Codie Rae and her mom

Debra -

Sorry my idea didn't pan out. I didn't realize not being able to use it with cancer :-(... I sure hope you and Em find a way to give her a little bit of happiness for all. Our thoughts stay with you.

Hugs -

Debra,

I wish that there was something smart and wonderful I could tell you to make you feel better... I just hope that things get better for Emily soon. All this stuff you and Emily have had to go through... it's just not fair!! Yell

I also ordered some of those power mushrooms on Saturday, but am worried now that I also won't get them in time to make a difference with Jake... Things had been going so well for a while now... and now, I just don't know... His back legs are even worse this morning... and he has to be totally helped with his harness now at all times or else he just falls down. I hate all this stupid cancer crap!!!Yell

You and Emily are in my thoughts and prayers... Keep us posted dear...

Well, it appears the when puppy pads say they encourage the dogs to pee on them they mean it  Emily has only had one accident since we changed her to the pads that people use.  It was right now and just a little dribble.  Last night she was lifting her leg and letting it go.  I did not know that girl dogs did that.

My husband is off work today and he called and left a message for our vet. She is only in Tuesdays and Thursdays.  We want to start the  Adequan shots ASAP.  Power mushrooms are on their way.  I have also been googling symptons and want her checked for Addisons.  I bet vets hate the internet.  Huh, Pam?

Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers.  I honestly don't know what I would do without you guys.

I'm sure the internet makes life harder for vets and doctors.

Now do not go and get your hopes up too much for Power Mushrooms. I think they are just meant as an immune system booster like K9 immunity - they are not a form of cancer treatment - although I must say I am happy about Tazzie's agility this week, whereas one week ago his leg was collapsing and quivering (but not as badly as you describe for Emily and Jake). They arrived much quicker than I was led to believe. I am guessing that you probably should not take them IF you are also taking K9 immunity , or at least you should check that out with someone knowledgable. They might have similar ingredients so it could be too much taken together.

I bet Acupuncture Atlanta is wondering why they are suddenly getting all these orders!

Jake, has the vet examined you? Do you have any idea why your hind legs are giving out (forgive me if I missed important posts, I see this is a long thread).

Truthfully, I put big hope on everything because I can't believe one month ago Emily was mobile and now she can't even roll over.  If cancer is a bitch I can't think of what hip dyslasia is.  Future generations of dogs can be affected by the drug study Emily is in and if she is not here due to hip dysplasia how will the oncoogists know if the combination of drugs worked?  Plus, I think I have mentioned that even pediatric oncologists are watching this study.  How do we make a decision based on Emily when so many other people and dogs are counting on her?

Pray for her,  obviously partly because I love her so much but honestly also so the oncologist can gain more knowledge through her.  It is my hope that future generations of dogs with OSA don't get a death sentence like our puppies have.  We may prolong when it comes but we all got one for our dogs.  If this combination of drugs works it could really make a big difference.

Well, off my soap box.  Goodnight.

I might have missed this but could you list all of Emily's current meds?  There are lots of combos that can help hip dysplasia including an NSAID plus Tramadol plus gabapentin as well as the Adequan.  Spinal mets are fairly rare and usually cause pain as well as dysfunction and it doesn't sound like Emily is painful.
