These pictures are sooooo great!!! CHANCY BEI G DOG!! I LOOOOOOVE THE FROLIC IN THE MID PUDDLES!! PURE BLISS!!

A d yeah, the one of Chance and pal running together in mirror I.age forme...GRRRRRRREAT photo!

My stupid tavlet wouldn't let me see the video, but I'll try later. Usually it's a connection thing.

Eurydice gave great advice. Continue to make each moment count and let nothing rob you of those moments! Hoping the meds kick in soon!!!

O e kf the benefits of Prednisone is it helps with inflammation (and inflammation = pain) caused by almost anything...a met...a surgery...a swollen disc...and yes, a hurting leg. And it's not just an "end" drug. It's used a lot for stuff! It's just that it can be used in larfer doses with no concern for side effects that can be created if used in those doses for long term. Make sense?

Anyeay, something to discuss with the Bet. Hoping the right concoctions can be figured out to help get that pain managed.

Sending lots of hugs and love and healing energy

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!

I'm happy to hear that you are trying the Zometa. I hope it gives Chance pain relief and bone strength.

I love all the photos. It's really amazing to Chance's leg position when in a full run - what perfection! On the mud puddle is wonderful. Maybe you should join him next time and roll around in it with him. Now that would be a great video!

Hugs to all,

I spoke with oncologist today. It's looking like the Zometa isn't working for Chance's Hypertrophic Osteopathy. We are going to add one more pain med starting tonight to see if he can get a little more relief. I think we are close to the end. I am so sad. I tried everything.

Chance could not jave any better care and any better advocate for him than you!! Chance knows how much you love him and NOTHING can interfere with that deep bond of love you two share.

Goodness knows, you have left no stone unturned and hsve done everything humanly possible to continue to give Chance good quality moments time after to time.

I hope with all my heart thst the additional pain med will help. Do you know if it kicks in right away or needs to build up for a dayish?

For now, we're going to send every ounce of pawsitive energy your Tripawd Family can generate for our sweet Chance. One day at a time and staying fully present with cute ChanceyPants. He's still with you and that's all that matters.

Love and hugs..lots of extra hugs

I'm so very sorry, how I had hoped it would help. What is the pain med recommended?

I know this is heartbreaking and it's a difficult time but please know you have done everything possible now, and in all the time before Chance became ill. You have given him such a pawsome life, no dog could ever hope for more from his human. This has been a rough few weeks but it cannot steal all the happy memories you shared before it started.

There is a weird feeling of peace and relief when you decide to stop treatment and truly focus on the here and now. If you can forgive yourself and push whatever anger you feel at the cancer away, at least now while Chancey is with you, and spend your time together just soaking up each other's love, you may find the comfort we experienced when we did the same with Jerry as his disease became too much for medicine to heal. And remember, ,there will be plenty of time for tears later OK?

Thanks very much for the kind words Sally and Jerry. The new pain med to add to the rest of his 'cocktail' is called Amantadine. The doctor didn't say how long it would take to kick in but I read it could be up to a week to see results. This is the last thing we will try. I will talk to the Oncologist again on Monday to see if we even try another round of the Zometa. But from my understanding it either works or it doesn't and you should know pretty shortly after the injection if it's helping. Since Chance's pain is much worse now, we think he is in the 'not helping' category.

We had a very fun weekend last weekend in Tahoe to escape the fireworks. I will post some more pics soon.

off topic from this particular post... but I feel an overwhelming sense of guilt because I neutered Chance at age 2 in March of 2016. 6 months later he was limping, 7 months later osteo diagnosis and amp.

I can't help but believe I turned 'on' the cancer gene. I was just trying to do what's right by neutering him. But he never showed any type of aggression and I never had him around un-fixed females. I should have just left well enough alone.

I've seen amandarine used here and I think it ha helped in some cases. Don't know avout the kick-in time though

And it certainly is worth asking the Onco is another dose of Zometa could help. Guess if it can do no harm, it's worth a shot. Chance didn't have any side effects, right?

Glad you had a good weekend WITH pictures! Can't wait to see them. He's such a photogenic fella'!

All paws crossed the pain can get better managed!! ALL PAWS EVERYWHERE!! And don't foget the junk food and lots of ice cream...And maybe Chance will share with you!

Love and hugs

I hope the amantadine works well for him. Like Sally, I don't know how long it takes to provide relief but that is a good question for your vet. I'd like to know the answer if you do remember to ask.

Please don't feel like you did anything to cause Chance's cancer. I'm one to talk, because I felt the same way with Jerry and even now I still have moments of guilt for things like feeding him junk food early in his life, neutering him at 4-6 months of age (we don't know how old he was, the shelter did it), using topical flea and tick, you name it, I found a reason for his cancer. But through the years in talking with scientists I've learned that cancer is a complicated disease that happens for many, many reasons and none of which scientists can say for sure is the cause. So if those brilliant minds can't put the blame on something, you shouldn't either OK? Chancey sure doesn't!

Sending lots of healing wishes to Chance and hugs to you today and always. Keep us posted.

Oh goodness. Just saw your comment about the neutering. First of all, it ised ro be we were told to neuter dogs at six months. Now shelters even neuter dogs as early as three months! Ugh!!

Ditto Jerry!

The "recommendation" now is to wait one year (depending on which artle you read or which Ver you speak with)! You didn't neuter Chance until two...so that was above and beyond what the "standard"'is now...so good for you!! Supposedly ine reason males are neutered is to preven prostitute cancer. That said, Benny (benny 55) was neutered at around one yr plus and still developed prostate as well as osteo at around ten yrs old.

There are hundreds of thousands of dogs who were neutered earlier, same time, later...and NONE of them got this crap! There are just as many UNneutered dogs who have developed the crap too! And IF that caused it, you have just stumbled on the cure thst has been evading Scientists and Veterinarians all over the world!!

So no, waste NO more energy on the guilt game. That's just another way that piece of crap disease tries to win. Another way that piece of crap disease tries to rob you if your time together. DON'T LET IT!! Your time and energy needs to be 100% focused on spoiling and loving thst sweet Chance non-stop!!

Speaking of spoiling, we're waiting for those pictures of exaclty that, okay? Let us know what the Onco says. D

HUGS!!!!!!!!
