Hi, how's Ruby on day 7? Im glad that you like your vet, it is very important to have a good relation with the vet. Hope that the change of meds will help her. School on monday?? Wow, you start early!

Just a quick question.  Have any of your vets done a stool sample to rule out a bacterial infection?   Just a thought it might be a bacteria causing it instead of a reaction to drugs.  Just throwing it out there and maybe thats already been done.  Fingers and paws crossed here that precious Ruby will be feeling much better soon and you will have smoother sailing on this journey.

Hugs,

Linda,

no they actually didn't do a stool sample when we brought her in, I think the doc is fairly confident that it's a reaction to the meds, but if it doesn't clear up after today we are going to bring her back in and get one you betchya!

❤️Thanks for thinking of us!

Ruby is making me nervous again. What's new. She isn't having diarrhea anymore, however she won't even pee now. She is walking around with her tail tucked again and just acting like she feels like crap. She's whimpering in pain really softly now almost like she's crying softly. We might go take her back to the vet and get some tests run to see if she needs any nutrition or fluids from all the dehydration caused by the big D. This also could just be her reacting to the Fentanyl patch similar to how she reacted to the Trazadone, just not quite as sedated. We haven't decided what we are going to do just yet but will keep you posted later today when we figure out our next move. Thanks for all the love❤️

Sorry to say it, but if she is not peeing, you need to call the vet.   Could still be pain, and perhaps the adjusted meds aren't quite working, but definitely needs to be checked.

Otis - 106 pound lab/Dane mix, lost his right front leg to osteosarcoma on Febuary 9, 2016.  Four rounds of carboplatin completed in April, 2016.  Lung mets August 25, 2016.  Said goodbye too soon on September 4, 2016.   Lost his adopted sister, Tess, suddenly on October 9, 2016. likely due to hemangiosarcoma.

She's peeing again! We have figured out that it is her bum that is making her sore and in pain right now. She is very very sore down there from all the diarrhea the past few days. We have been putting cream on it for her, as advised by the vet. She is normally SUCH a social dog and thrives from attention and socializing because I take her with me everywhere. So this morning I decided she needed just that! She seemed to perk up a bit when we took her to both vet offices before, so I thought we should try it again--no one likes moping around the house 24/7. So....I rolled out the wagon, hesitant and very unsure if she is even going to have anything to do with it. Guess what? She LOVES it. She rode and rode and rode in that wagon, smiling and taking it all in. We walked her over to a local cafe a couple blocks away, rolled her right up to the table and she decided to lay down at our feet next to the wagon and just SOAK up the attention from all the customers and staff wanting to say hello! It was so great to be able to distract her from being uncomfortable for a couple of hours! Up until this point she had not peed for about 24 hours which was starting to concern us, but I took her outside mid-brunch and she went twice, came back in, and drank some water! Today was a perfect day for this as it was overcast and mid 70s, she did not get too hot on our wagon walk and really really seemed to enjoy the ride! She even got out once on the way home to pee and then got back in! Who would have thought the wagon would be beneficial to her recovery? Who knows if she will like it once she is fully recovered and back at it, but for now...I think its a win! We are back home now, she is doing better, I am doing better. Lets nap!

Awe - sweet Ruby!  Wonder if she's getting a hot spot from all of the diarrhea?  I know they make a food for that, too - Cassie has had it before...not sure the name of it, sorry..it's probably a Prescription Diet one.  Have you tried canned pumpkin?  Just a couple of spoonsful a day helps - the plain stuff, not the stuff with all of the spices in it.

Here is Ruby in her wagon this morning 🙂 (ugh it's not working ...dang it hold up) we went for a stroll around the block tonight too, it's 60 degrees out I can't believe it!

Donna-I'll have to pick up a can of pumpkin at the store this weekend! For now I think her GI is back functioning semi-normally, she is just really sore from all the diarrhea over the last few days, poor girl.

We are starting to worry about the incision as it's looking like some of the skin has become necrotic and started to decay and turn hard and black. The surgeon looked at it when we had her at the office a couple days ago and said it was okay for now, but she will recheck on Monday. She might end up having to sedate Ruby again and go back and fix the incision by removing the dying skin. I hope she doesn't have to do this, but it's not looking very pretty right now. Will update on Monday.

aww...your picture didn't work sad

Try to massage around the incision a few times a day - that will help to increase the circulation around it.  Maybe that will help with the healing a little bit (it can't hurt the healing!).  Not sure if you've been cleaning the incision with anything, but don't use peroxide on it - just plain water is fine, or you can boil water then let it cool down to room temperature.

LOOOOOOVE THIS PICTURE-!!! OMD!!!! GRINNING EAR TO EAR!!!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂 Ruby really is enjoying it! So glad she got to go socializing and out and about!

How bout emailing the veta picture of the skin around the incision? That's something you'll want to stay on top of.

Soooo glad she's peeing! That really had me worried! So glad the diarrhea has stopped too! As far as the pumpkin, that still blows my mind that apparently it's used for constipation OR diarrhea! That just .makes me crazy trying to figure that one out!

I keep scrolling back to look at that picture...it is just so darn adorable!

Hugs!

She looks so happy in her wagon!  That was a great idea.  And I am so glad the other problems seem to be resolving!

YAAAY! Oh wow never would have guessed the wagon would help her get the urge to pee! Wheeeee!

Many dogs don't adapt to the wagon at first, sometimes not at all (our Jerry hated it). Ruby's a rock star!
