Just when we relax & breathe, we notice Calamity limping on her left rear leg. We are going to get x-rays tomorrow morning. I hope we find arthritis because, as some of you know, amputation/chemo is no longer an option for our sweet tripawd.

We have lost 2 of our greyhounds in the past month, one was Calamity's littermate brother. I'm not sure what I will do if she has osteo.

Please say a little prayer for my sweet girl. She has already been through rough life.

Thanks!

Janie

PS: I wrote a post last night but it isn't showing up, sorry if this duplicates.

Praying for Calamity.

I'll be praying it's just arthritis. Best of luck. Paws crossed.

We are sending you pawsitive thoughts. Hope it not cancer.

-Chloe's mom

Chloe became a rear amp tripawd on 7-29-10. Another tumor was removed on front leg 2-20-14. Found 3rd tumor on neck 2-2015, but she's still kicking cancer's butt at age 14. Chloe's blog

Hi Janie,

It's good to hear from you, we're sorry that Calamity's having issues. Paws crossed that it's "just" arthritis and can be resolved with some TLC. Please let us know how it goes OK?

So sorry about your other pups, that's a tough month for sure. We're sending lots of hugs your way.

The good news ~ The x-rays (and he took a LOT!) do not show osteo ~ exhale!

He x-rayed every part of her left leg from toes to hip and decided to shoot her back right leg too since we had her in & nothing there either.

Aparently, while racing, she broke a toe that was not addressed and did not heal correctly. It seems that it is the cause of the trouble now. The toe has always had a gnarly looking & growing nail which I have to keep cut short to keep it from jamming into the next toe, aparently the break caused that. If she had 4 legs, we would probably consider amputating the toe (lots of greyhounds have missing toes from amputations ~ I have even seen greyhound get a toe amputation & go on to be champion racer), but with only 3 legs, it's not an option unless daily anti-inflamitories do not give her relief. So we are back on Metacam daily, I wish she could take a less expensive anti-inflamitory, but the others give her some GI issues, so it is what it is.

Thanks for your good thoughts for my sweet girl! And know that I pop in often to see how everyone is doing. I root for every dog here & cry with you when we loose one. I still love this community & Jim & Renee for building our home!

My friend reminded me, at the vet, that her initial break wias almost 4 years ago. It seems she's been a tripawd forever to me!

I'm so happy to hear that news. If you have a compounding pharmacy nearby, they can compound the generic meloxicam less expensively. When a drug whose patent has expired, is marketed for veterinary use, the pharmaceutical company can again brand it, making it so much more expensive.

Yahoo!!

It's amazing what having a tripawd does to your perspective.  We are always happy to get an old break or arthritis or other diagnosis, as long as it is not cancer!!!

I hope the anti infamatories work for her.
