Oh my goodness! Time flies! When Barkley got his "clean" bill of health from the vet, things got busy really fast. The hiatus on homeschooling was over and suddenly I was planning for 6th, 4th and pre-k learners and jumping in full time. My body had it's (expected) crash after the relief set in, and I have some recovering I have to do, myself. The dryer broke on the same day the lab results were finally clear, go figure ...
Anyways, Barkley is doing wonderfully. Every so often I see him "limping" out of the corner of my eye and I panic, but then I realize it's his new normal gait. He's back to most of his normal behavior, though he's certainly more bonded to me after our time during his recovery. He's totally still my husbands dog, but he definitely likes me more than he used to. The feeling is mutual. I'm awed by his resilience and determination. I'm inspired by his patience with the kids and dogs and bandaging. I'm impressed. He's handling stairs, hard floors, jumping on furniture all fine. He has claimed an area under my bed and growls at any dogs that come near the entrance, but he's always been a stinker. The other two don't push it. I think he just feels vulnerable sometimes. He's not quite back to playing with the dogs, but he will join the barking and rough house with us, so he's well on his way.
I do still plan to post photos and share info with others, etc. Time certainly flies. Y'all were and are amazing. Thank you!

Hello Melanie, I just got caught up on your adventures. I'm so glad Barkley is doing so well. You brought back so many memories of my own 2 weeks as a zombie nurse for Nixon. Everyone warns you that the first two weeks are the worst even when NOTHING goes wrong but when things do, you can amaze yourself at how resourceful you can be. Congrats on becoming the bandage queen. 🙂
Nixon refused to let me leave his side at all. If I left the room, Nixon would urinate or poop in his bed to get me to come back. My vet realized that I wasn't getting enough sleep so they did daycare (for free) for me a few times so I could do things like take a shower and get more than 15 minutes of sleep. We lived mostly on freeze dried camping food for 3 weeks because Nixon was such a handful that I couldn't handle my husband running to the grocery store very often. When he did run to the grocery store, most of the food he bought was for Nixon! A Harris Teeter opened up a few months later that did online ordering that was only 7 minutes from our house. Figures!
