The worse news came today. Her lungs were clear but a new tumor found in front right leg. We are just devastated. She was given some really strong meds for pain management but that will just be temporarily She is acting fine, good appetite, but getting weak. I am in Canada and can not get home to be there for my daughter and Zip and all I can do is pray and cry. Her oncologist said that this dog was not ready to go yet so not to rush in with the decision but my daughter will not let Zip get into pain and misery but also doesn't want to give her up one second before she has to. Praying for the kiss of mercy that Zip will pass in her sleep. We have had her 7 months longer than we were told but it is never enough even if it has been a year My daughter who is a vet is having a hard, hard time.

I'm so sorry to hear about Zip.  And I'm really sorry that you aren't able to be at home.  You have given her a wonderful 12 months.

Her Retired AvatarComet - 1999 to 2011

She departed us unexpectedly  January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.

She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.

we are so sorry to hear this news - it really sucks!!  the blessing is that zip doesn't know she's got this new tumor, she just knows how much she loves you and your daughter, and how much an extra treat would make her smile.  hugs to you all, know that we're all here for you.

Oh, I'm so sorry you are having to go through this. As you said, even when you get more time than you thought you were going to get, it's not enough. So Zip is in pain? Is she limping?

I wish you and your daughter the best in making your hard decisions. I think all of us hope and pray that our friends go peacefully on their own terms, at home with family nearby. So few of us get that grace. I hope that you and Zip do.

I am so sorryto hear about Zip. You are so right, there is no amount of time that would be "enough."

I hope your wishes are granted that she has a peaceful passing.

we will be thinking of you. Big hugs,
Jackie, Abby's mom

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!

No, there is never enough time.

This part of the journey is very difficult.  Even though we all know it is coming it is hard to handle when we get there.

If you think it would help her why don't you have your daughter come here?  Many of us have been to this point and can offer a shoulder.

And Shari is right- not many are blessed with our pups passing on their own.  And while you and your daughter may feel like you are not strong enough to deal with what is in front of you- all you need to do is look how far you have come with Zip.  You have made many difficult decisions with Zip's best interest at heart.  You will have the strength to do what you need when the time comes.

Wishing strength and peace to you and your family.

I'm so sorry about Zip.  Tell your daughter to make every moment count and to give her lots of extra treats and hugs. I'm sorry that you can't be there now. I'm thinking of you both during this difficult time.

Sadie is my 9yr old Rott/Shepherd mix. Diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her right scapula 1/28/10. Our brave girl had her amputation 2/13/10 and her last chemotherapy on 6/6/10. Unfortunately, a tumor appeared in her back right leg and on 10/7/2010 Sadie's earthly journey came to an end.  On 10/24/2010 we adopted Ranger, a handsome Rott/Lab mix tripawd (got hit by a car) I think Sadie sent him to us.

Zip is a special one to me because we have the connection of coming here around the same time.  This really is upsetting, I have thought of her just "Zipping" along, quick as a bunny, beating cancer and having fun.

I am sorry.  I think it is a great idea to have your daughter come here too, if she wants to.  I bet it is just as hard on you, not being able to be there and hug her and Zip.

Everyone has said that time never seems to be enough, I have to echo that.  Sending hugs, prayers, and healing thoughts.

I couldn't begin to say how special Sammy is to us.  Living and laughing with and loving this wonderful boy is priceless.

Oh we are so sorry! Darnit!

What is supposed to be a rare occurrence, metastasizing to the bone, seems to be happening more and more around here. I don't get it.

If your daughter hasn't already looked into it, bisphosphonates can help ease the pain and give a good quality of life.

Lots of hugs and wishes for many good days ahead coming your way....

I am so sorry to hear the news about Zip. Even if we all had 100 years with our pups, it wouldn't be enough time. Praying for Zip to have a peaceful passing on to the Rainbow Bridge, and for you & daughter to have the strength during this time.

Sending you many golden hugs!

I am so sorry to hear about Zip.  I just went through this a couple weeks ago and I know what a blow it can be.  There is no amount of time that is enough, but it is important to enjoy every single extra day that you get.  I would also echo Karen and suggest that your daughter come to the forums.  I found so much extra strength and support here when I went through it with Chili Dawg.  The people here are amazing and have helped me so much.  I will keep your daughter & Zip in my prayers.

Hugs to you, your daughter, & sweet Zip
