Atlas had his third round of carboplatin chemo on Monday and they said they gave him an "extra large" dose because he has handled it so well.  No one asked us or told us prior to administering.  I need to get the invoice from Marc and compare to past doses.  Just wondering if anyone has experience this or heard of this because our boy is super lethargic yesterday and today.

We never had anyone adjust Sassy's dose.  Normally they do those on weight.  I can't speak on that maybe someone else can.  I know Sassy was always tired after her chemo though.

Keep going Atlas.  Way to complete 3 chemos

Hugs

I was actually told they would do this if Jill was tolerating it well prior to ever starting chemo.  Turns out, she wasn't (not outwardly, just her white blood cells), so they dropped it without letting me know (but makes sense)....

Jill is a 9-year-old tuxedo kitty. She was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma in June 2012 on her toe in her right hind leg. Her leg was amputated on 12/12/12 and she completed four rounds of chemo (2 of Carbo, 2 of Doxy) in April 2013. I think it makes sense if his WBC has been holding steady through the first 2. Athena's was actually the opposite and they had to lower her second dose because her WBC count dropped so much. If I remember correctly, the difference was 270 mg vs 300 mg. We go back for round 3 this Friday, so hopefully it worked and she is good to go for round 3 with no delays.

I will always love you, Athena.

Thanks peeps! Looked at the invoice and in the past he received 450 mg carboplatin and this time he got 600 mg. sounds like so much compared to Athena. Hmmmm.
It says 150 mg x 4 so I think I'm figuring this right? Probably like Michelle said based on his weight of 127 lbs. so that makes sense. Anyway the boy is doing better today, a little mores energy. I think we are also dealing with pure heat and humidity lethargy, me included.

It's too bad they didn't run this idea past you BEFORE giving the juice.  But, I'd probably appreciate the approach.  Jackson handled his chemo like a champ and at times wished we saw side effects!  Without them, it was hard to tell (still is!) if it was "working."  I've decided, none of us know it actually works. Well, actually, I think there are things that can happen that tell us it wasn't working.  So in that absence, I guess, rest up Big Guy.  You got the juice Big Time.  Let it do it's thing and soon, Atlas, you'll be back on track.

~ Katy & Jackson

ACL tear in right hind leg 12/5/12 and scheduled ACL repair surgery 12/21/12. Pre-op xrays revealed osteosarcoma. Amputation 12/28/12.  Chemo (carboplatin) started Jan 10, 2013 and ended on April 5, for a total of 5 doses. He handled carbo like a champ!  No side effects.  We started metronomic therapy at his third chemo and have been also doing some holistic treatments.  He's a lively, playful 10 year old huskie-boarder collie and a very proud member of the Winter Warriors!  Our love. Our funny little guy!
