So i noticed today that the back hip of the leg of Cholla's that was not amputated has a bump on it and of course my mind goes to tumor...  but i am wondering if it may be a new/larger muscle or an inflamed muscle because of using that leg much more now?

It doesn't seem to bother her when i touch it and the original tumor clearly did and it doesn't seem to bother her at all, it is just i am worried about everything now.  She is doing great on 3 legs but her back leg gets tired (she already had stiffness issues in her hips before the surgery).

thanks for answering my many questions!  i have tried to search for answers before posting more questions but don't seem to be very good with the search option....

FYI: We just replied to your search topic in the tech support forum.

Is the new lump small and squishy or moveable? Or is it larger and firm? Be sure to provide as much detail in your posts, and in your topic titles. Using tags will also help others find information when searching. For instance, readers may not recall what type of tumor Cholla had. If it was osteosarcoma, it has likely not presented itself again in another limb so quickly.

If you can post a photo, that may help Dr. Pam and others identify what might be going on.

Any chance she got her rabies vaccination recently?  That sometimes creates a movable, almost bubble-like lump (at least that's what Gerry's was like) that will gradually shrink into nothing after a couple weeks or so.  I'd never seen it with my previous dogs and freaked, but the vet realized what it was and then shortly after, my roommate's dog got a similar bump and lo and behold he had recently had his rabies vaccination too!

That's just one totally benign possibility!  I hope it's something as harmless, whatever it may be laugh

Gerry has been a tripawd since 12/16/2009.

He was a shelter dog with a mysterious past and an irrepairable knee injury.

Or it could be a lipoma... Rio has presented me with so many lipomas over the years, I can almost diagnose them in my sleep. They are kinda squishy and move easily. They can show up just about anywhere -- Rio's got 'em on her legs, her ribs, her back, under her "arms." A quick fine needle aspirate of the lump will tell you conclusively what you're dealing with, and the relief you feel is worth the cost of the test.

If it is moveable it could just be a 'fatty mass.'. We found a lump on Ginger's stomach last week and ran off to the vet thinking the worst. But the vet said was just a mass, non-cancerous, and nothing to worry about as long as it does grow. She actually said she found another one while checking her out which we didn't even notice.

Hope Cholla's bump is nothing too!

Sending good thoughts that Cholla's bump is nothing serious!

All the best,
Jackie, Abby's mom

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Probably just a lipoma (fatty tumor), but when in doubt, ask the vet! Keep us posted.

Hi Cholla's family

As the others asked, what kind of lump is this? Is it a hard and discrete lump? Or is it more like a muscle. Certainly tripawds get new and improved muscles (in the neck and other legs). But it is possible for OSA dogs to get hard lumps. My dog did, at about 2 months post surgery. It was pretty obvious what it was when I felt it, for it was hard and not a fatty lump. I think it was about grape-size or a bit bigger when I first noticed it.

My vet used a needle aspirate and it did not look good, so she could tell that much without being invasive. On the other hand, some people chose not to investigate further because it might not affect their treatment.

In any case, definitely check it out with your vet and monitor the size closely.

Anyway, keep us posted. Hopefully it is just a muscle or fatty thing.

Thanks all.  She's going to the vet on Thursday am for her post opp check up so I will ask about that and my other hundred questions.  I am super worried about everything now.  The lump is definitely not hard- I'm thinking it may be muscular.

My newest concern is that  she has no interest in going for her walk (ie to the end of the block and back, till the doctor says she can go further).  She always wants to go for a walk- but I'm wondering if she gave up since I won't really let her walk.  She does still greet us and go sit in the back in the sun and eats well but the not wanting to go for a walk is troubling.  I think I saw a post about this lately so I will go take a look.
