Hello,
My 4 year old Lab was diagnosed with Grade 3 Chondrosarcoma almost a month an a half ago. She has had her leg amputated and has had one chemo treatment which was not tolerated well. There is little to no information on Chondrosarcoma and was hoping someone in this community could give me any insight. I am feeling discouraged because of her grade.

I'm sorry to hear about your Lab, she is so young! I take it her name is Daisy?
So what did your oncologist suggest when she didn't handle chemo? Any Plan B? If not, why not?
Here is an older post about chondrosarcoma in dogs, but the info is still relevant. It is my understanding that chemo is a long shot with this cancer, which is often resistant to treatments.

As for metastasis, I'm assuming and hoping there are no signs of it in your pup?

Thanks for replying Jerry. The plan b is to try a lower dose. I am wondering if I should maybe go more the holistic route to boost her immunity.
Thankfully it has not spread at all but this grade has a 50% chance of metastasizing. The vet said there was vascular invasion but it wasn't a surprise because of the location of the tumor (proximal humorous).
I did read about chemo not working with this type of cancer. I also see that the studies for this cancer are older so I was interested in seeing if anyone has tried chemo for their dog with chondrosarcoma and what their success has been.

Ah OK, so are you thinking you might do a lower dose? There are no right or wrong choices when it comes to chemo.
Really glad to hear it hasn't spread! That's awesome. I'll take 50/50 odds, it's much better than many cancers.
Yes, why not consider some things that can help her immune system fight back? It's what we did for Jerry when we opted out of cancer chemo (I should clarify, I'm Jerry's mom, Rene). You can check out our Tripawds Nutrition blog for all sorts of ideas on how you can improve her diet.
As for the chondrosarcoma studies in dogs ... yeah unfortunately that form of the disease doesn't get a whole lot of attention. I'm hoping a member will chime in with their experience fighting it (I'll put a call out on social media for you). Meanwhile, you can always call the good folks at Colorado State University's Oncology Consulting Line to get their feedback on treatments. If anyone has the latest scoop, they sure do.

Don't have specific insight into your situation , but do know this: No dog has a timeframe sta ped anywhere on their butts!! Daisy doesn't give a crap about any ole' diagnosis . It means nothing to her! Hasn't changed her world at all!!
Since tjere isn't much known about this, I think adding an alternative approach is a great idea. Check into mushroom therapies. Check out K9 Immunity. Check out Turkey Tail. Check out Cumin..Cunim (okay, way off spelling)
There is actually a thread on here about that....if I could spell it! Anyway, I know sevral chimed in on good supplements, etc
Just continue to make every day the best day ever!! No worries about the tomorrows!! NOW is all that matters!
And one more thing, Daisy is not a "statistic" and is not a "grade". And Angel Stubborn Pug Maggie was not a "statistic" or "grade" when her hooman was told she had only months. Pug Maggie didn't listen and crossed over FOUR YEARS later!!!
