Molly broke her right front leg 19 days ago and had her leg amputated the next day. She will be 15 in December. She is doing so well and getting around great on 3 legs. Her surgeon just called and her bone biopsy was positive for Osteo Sarcoma . We have decided not to do Chemo and just give her the best end of life possible.

My question is, what are the signs that the cancer has spread or advanced? Are there any signs for us to watch for?

Welcome and best wishes for Molly! Your future forum posts will not require moderation.

It's far too early to start thinking about end of life decisions. Our Jerry lived two years after his osteosarcoma amputation, without IV chemotherapy. Try to take things one day at a time and focus on allowing Molly to completely heal and regain her strength.

Be sure to bookmark Jerry's Required Reading List and search these forums or search all blogs here for lots of helpful feedback. Or, consider downloading the Tripawds e-books for fast answers to common concerns.

Oh gosh!!! Almost 15?? A majestic Greyhound?? And a tripawd??? Doing well just 19 days after major surgery??

I salute you Molly!!!clap You are a Rock Star!!superstar

Standing ovation going on over here!!clap

As Jerry's Dad said, try not to focus in the "end of life". Focus on the NOW! No dog has a timeframe stamped on their butts! Every dog is sooooo different. Statistics don t mean much around here.

I don't know if xrays were taken as this was apparently quite sudden.. But clearly your vet thiught Molly was in good enough health to proceed with major surgery and adapt to three legs!

We have a twelve yr. old Greyhound, Nixon, who is going on two years after the diagnosis and amputation. If I recall, he was just given "months".initially.

As far as symptoms, and please, I'm in no way minimizing your concerns on what to look for, but"symptoms" vary soooo greatly, it's almost futile to try and compartmentalize them. And "poor quality" for one dog, may not be "poor quality" for another.

Right now, it sounds like Molly is doing amazingly well! SPOIL, SPOIL, SPOIL!! A scoop of ice cream, a drive thru burger, make everyday a day of celebration! Stay in the present! Molly isn't worried about a thing! She's enjoying the bliss of being with you.

We would love to hear more about Molly. Is she an adoption? How long has she "owned" you? Take lots and lots of pictures! We love pictures around here!

Keep us updated. We are all here for you and we understand the ups and downs of this journey like no others can!

Give sweet Molly hugs for us....right after her scoop of ice cream! You're doing a great job and clearly she is very, very loved!!

(((((((((((((((((((((((((((((Hugs))))))))))))))))))))))))))

Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle too!

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!

Wow! We aren't that far yet, today was our one week post op. Eva isn't anywhere near that golden age though! That's so good that Molly is adjusting well to her new life! superstar
