One of the things not discussed too often is tripawd hygiene.  Well Radar had one of his least favorite rituals today.  If you have a male dog with a front leg amputation you may know what I'm talking about - especially if it is a long haired breed.

Radar can't lift his leg any more to go potty and has developed a new half crouched posture to go.  The end result of his new "posture" well basically it's a mess.   So every 2 or 3 months I lay him down and trim out all of the fur inside his rear legs and on his lower belly.   It prevents messy sticky fur to wash and brush out daily which is usually not the most comfortable thing for him and a real pain for us too.  Radar is wonderfully patient with me as I don't use a razer and do this by hand.  I also take the opportunity to trim his pads and around the base of his tail.

In the end this is sooo much easier on him then washing and combing out sticky hair every day, but, LOL, you can just see him sighing and rolling his eyes "just get it over with will ya"

Dignity aside, this is a great tip! Thanks, we've moved it here to the resources forum.

And don't worry Radar, Wyatt pees all over his front leg with his missing rear left. Embarassed

I can't quite picture how it works for Radar but Tazzie's issue is that sometimes he hits the tips of his hind feet, although not too often compared with the start.  But he does successfully still life the leg at times. And the hind leg tripawd I met last week, well it does a handstand when it lifts its remaining hind leg. That must be interesting to see.

I guess this is another great reason to take a tripawd for a daily swim - at least until the snow flies!

Chuy is a frt. lft. amputee and when he does the #1, he pees all over his front foot.  We don't have a problem with him making a mess of his rear end doing the #2 tho.Laugh

Chuy, showing everyone that Tripawds do everything 3 times better than regular dogs!

Lucky me!  Cemil stretches out like a horse so I don't have to deal with cleaning up his front leg.  He's even figured out how to poop-and-scrape successfully--that was a milestone!  He's funny when he does it.  He gets his front leg positioned just right, then does a quick scrape with each hind leg, looking pretty proud.

We do have a 4 legged boy who would always pee on his front legs and on the fringe under his rib cage.  He's a black brindle IM but his belly and front legs are white (or usually yellow as the case was back then),  Here is a tip for that as learned from some afghan folks I know.  Get a cheap waterproof windbreaker, put it on him backwards (front legs through the sleeves) and zipper it up along his back.  Tie the waist string up snug around the loin.

Not recommended for long play times in hot weather (they don't breath) but for potty breaks it helps a lot and the windbreaker can be thrown in the washer at night.
