Clio is now almost 3 months post surgery and is doing very well. We just finished our third round of monthly chemo- rotating between carboplatin and doxorubicin. She has tolerated them both with little side effects. Clio is not as mobile of course as she was pre-diagnosis as her age and conformation make it difficult for her to stand/walk for more than brief stints at a time - but she can sprint in short bursts while we run with her with the sling which makes her very happy. I have no regrets about the surgery and her recovery has really been complication- free. Her lovely personality is back and is very content to hang out with us, the cat, and relax in her surroundings.

Awwww!  That's great news!  A large, senior SUPER gal like Clio deserves her golden years to go at her pace.  She's getting so much love and care.  That's obvious. Way to go, Clio!

~ Katy & Jackson

ACL tear in right hind leg 12/5/12 and scheduled ACL repair surgery 12/21/12. Pre-op xrays revealed osteosarcoma. Amputation 12/28/12.  Chemo (carboplatin) started Jan 10, 2013 and ended on April 5, for a total of 5 doses. He handled carbo like a champ!  No side effects.  We started metronomic therapy at his third chemo and have been also doing some holistic treatments.  He's a lively, playful 10 year old huskie-boarder collie and a very proud member of the Winter Warriors!  Our love. Our funny little guy!

Well, I don't know what happened but sadly I spoke too soon. Clio started having bladder control issues last week. I thought it was a UTI but to make a long story short this cancer has spread to her lymph nodes, pressing on her bladder. The vet says that there is nothing more they can do for her as the cancer is too aggressive for the chemo treatments to keep up with it. Now we are just trying to make her comfortable and take it day by day. It is heart wrenching and don't quite understand how things can change so drastically, so poorly.

I'm so sorry about this new prognosis.....and yeah, this crappy, ugly "c" can be very sneaky sometimes. Spoil her, enjoy her, and live everyday to the fullest, that is one of the ultimate gifts we can give our precious fur babies.

Keeping you and Clio in my thoughts,
Bonnie Angel Polly

I'm so sorry to see this guys, my heart goes out to you. Just curious if your vet is an oncologist? Maybe there's something they can do to shrink the tumors, like with metronomics or something like that? I'm hoping. Give her a hug from us and remember we are here to support you.

Oh, I am so sorry to hear this. This stupid disease is such a sneaky beast. Maybe there are some supplements or meds to decrease the urinary urgency. Thinking of you, Lori and Ty

Clio is finally at peace - July 6, 2014. She declined so quickly after we received news that the cancer had spread to her lymph nodes (apparently this happens in only 4% of cases!). Jerry - yes- our doc is an oncologist - the cancer was so aggressive that there was no hope that any treatment would be effective. Seeing how this diseased ravaged her, I'm comforted to know that she is now pain free. For others with dogs facing this situation, We noticed Clio limping in mid- February. Just a few weeks before she was running around like crazy. She was diagnosed with osteosarcoma on February 22 - the surgeon thought she was a poor candidate for amputation so we first tried to treat her with chemo and radiation. When the tumor grew faster than expected we amputated in early April as our only remaining option. She did quite well with monthly chemo treatments and we received two good months. Then she stopped being mobile, started losing interest in eating again and then became incontinent. We took her in and learned that there were rumors pressing on her bladder. She declined so quickly after that. My heart goes out to others facing this situation as it is terrible to see your dear dog go through this. We are so sad but know that she is in a better place.

So very, very, very sorry to hear this. I know the heartbreak is suffocating right now.and seems as though it will never let up. I also know there are no words to help ease your pain right now. We can only let you know we are here for you and we understand like no others can. We cry with you and we know the void al to well.

So many beautiful and supportive things have been posted under the dreaded "Coping..." thread that you may find comforting and, eventually help with your healing.

Nothing can ever take a soul like Clio "away" from you and nothing could ever invade that magnificant Spirit and Heart of Clio's.

You gave Clio every chance possible and extended her time with you pain free and full of more loving and spoiling than anyone could imagine possible! And that's exactly what she wanted! And two months of loving and spoiling, running little short sprints and then relaxing by your side with her kitties...yeah, she appreciated that extra time immensely! And, in doggy years, those "two" months felt like a year of happiness to her!

When you can, please share more of Clio's life and phots of that lovely and gentle soul...gentle, but determined!

And please know this! We don't forget our heroes ...ever! Clio lived a life of meaning and she will continue to inspire and touch hearts. Thank you so much for letting us get to know her. We look forward to hearing more about her whenyou can. We're here for you.

Sending you love and surrounding you with Clio's eternal grace.and love.

Sally and Happy Hannah

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!

Oh I'm so sorry. My heart and deepest condolences go out to you, I know how hard it is to make that decision. Yes, she is at peace, her spirit lighting up the universe and shining down on all of us. Although her battle was far too short, I'm sure she touched a lot of people who will never, ever forget her fighting spirit.

Cancer is so mean, I know you must have a million emotions going through you right now. Please know you can always come here to share stories and celebrate Clio's life with us. The Tripawd experience is something that changes you forever, we are honored that we could be a part of your journey.

Many, many hugs coming your way.
