Hi, I'm Checkers. I'm a 12.5 year old Golden who was diagnosed with hemangiopericytoma in 9/2012. I had 2 surgeries and low dose chemo which I tolerated well but my tumor continued to grow. Last week it ulcerated and my family was left with the decision to amputate or provide a few sessions of palliative radiation which would have given me only a few more months. I had my amputation on Mon 6/23/14 at Angell Memorial Animal Hospital in Boston and came home 2 days later.
I'm eating and drinking but am struggling to get up and walk. My family says I'm making progress, I've tried to get up on my own a couple of times and with the help of a harness I can take a few steps. My family is hopeful and know that we'll get through this rough period and I'll be swimming again before we know it.
