Update: Dropped my sweet Lyla off this morning with the pyjama t-shirt I wore to bed last night to put in her kennel with her.

The surgeon called me as I arrived home and told me that she re-evaluated her today because on Monday when she was there she was still slightly sedated and she wanted to make sure she had a good exam, without sedation prior to the amputation.  Her exam went well and she confirmed she is a candidate for amputation.  She also told me she was one of the sweetest dogs the surgeon has seen.

Her surgery will be performed this afternoon and the surgeon will call me once it is done to give me an updated.

This is going to be THE LONGEST DAY EVER.

Thank you always for the support and kind words. I honestly don’t know if I would have been able to go through any of this without this forum and Benny and Jerry.

I will update all once I hear from the surgeon.

Love,

Jamie & Lyla.

Okey dokey....onward and upward!   Lyla is in good hands and will be completely  knackered  tonight, so you try and get some rest.

I'm sure they'll update when surgery is done.  Imkmpwmot will seem like furever, but you'll hear from them when things get settled.

UPDATE:

Vet called at 4:30. Surgery went well, she's resting now and in ICU. She'll be monitored around the clock and will be re-assessed tomorrow morning and the vet will call me to give me the report. She may come home tomorrow or Saturday depending on how she's doing.

Now we tripawd proof the house and get her recovered. It's not gonna be easy, but we'll do it ❤

SHE'S HOME!!

The emotions of picking her up are real. I was so happy to see her but omg seeing her struggle to walk absolutely broke my heart. Her tail wagged when I picked her up and when she got home.

I bought her a ramp which she refused to use, she walked up the 4 stairs to get in the house.

She was really thirsty and drank from the only place all of my dogs drink, which is the toilet. She ate a couple of mouthfuls of food which I hand fed her.

She's resting now. I'm petrified she won't have the will to get up and walk around on her own.

The feeling of having done the right thing is absolutely real. So real. God I hope I did the right thing. I hope she has the will to be Lyla.

That's all for now.

UPDATE:

She started to whine so I got her up and we went outside to pee. She was PANTING like crazy and I see how much pain and confusion she has.  She does not understand what is going on or why she is in so much pain.

I will fight the good fight with her, and I will do everything in my power to stay positive.  I will watch and celebrate little victories.

For now however, I am sad and I will allow myself to be sad just for tonight.

Thank you again for all of the support.

Jamie, I'm so glad she's home. The toilet bowl water dish made me lol! Ok she sounds pretty normal for first night home. It's ok to feel the sadness, that's normal. She will be wonky but that's the meds. In a day or two she will be more herself. Stay strong!

This may be ruff tonight but it's only temporary. You can do this and so can she. Keep us posted!

Toilet water best water evvvver in a dog's mind!!!

Right now it's all about rest, healing and recovery.  Lyla isnt "sad".  She's doped up and not feeling like having a pawty quite yet!  She just had MAJOR surgery!!  Hoomans would still be in  the hospital  on a morphine  drip!

You already have more vict6 to cele than others st this early time of recovery.   We always caution  not to compare your dog's recov to others, but she is a bit ahead of the "curve" in some aspects.  She's drinking,  she's eating some, wagged and, although wobbly she took some steps  and she PEED!!!  Some dogs are reluctant to drink or eat;  some don't pee yet;  some aren mobile at all the day after surgery.

We know it's hard to be patient  and we expect so much from our dogs because  they are so resilient.   Just keep remind yourself about the major surgery scenario with hoomans.  I dont think I got more than five hours sleep for the first three nights.  Mh Happy Hannah was quite restless and uncomfortable.  Some pain med tweaking  helped settle things down

You've got this!!   You do!!  We know it!!

Hugs

My girl woke up this morning wagging her tail. She ate her entire breakfast and wanted to go out with the other dogs in the back.

She's lying in the kitchen now, I think its because she hot and the tiles are cool.

I know she could go backwards, but what a change from yesterday ❤.

What a change from yesterday!!!

Lyla is much more "with it" today. She has been out to pee twice. She is licking her good leg like crazy and is really thirsty. She's drinking a ton of water.

I've read the water is normal after anesthesia, but the licking, is that normal? Her good leg must be sore.

Any advice/insight appreciated.
