All things considered, pretty darn good news 👍No more seizures and his eyesight is okay is excellent news..and he’s home!!👏
Maube you could get him to drink Pedialyte to help provide electrolytes and enhance his hydration.

I sure he’s exhausted from the ordeal as Iam sure you are  Hope you can a get some good sleep and return back to normal.

Thanks much  for taking time to update.  Relieved to hear he is home

Oh no! I'm sorry to hear about the ER visit. Ugh! It's hard to say if the seizure and pain signals were connected or not, no idea what this could be. Let us know what your vet says about everything, and what next steps to take. Hopefully this is a one-time thing. Our own dog Jerry had seizures when he was young, then they stopped.

Interestingly, another member's pup, Derry, had a series of seizures recently. Not saying that Voshkey's situation is the same, but there could be information in their story that may be helpful when discussing with your vet.

He is probably worked up because of the exhaustion and strange vet experience. I'm going to guess that today he will be a little quieter. Please keep us posted.

Thank you both for your kind words and advice.  Reading about Derry was definitely helpful for us to be more informed.  V had another (short) seizure early morning yesterday and saw his primary care vet.  They recommended giving him the gaba a little more frequently and also making sure he is sedated for a few days.  Between all of that and stopping the carprofen & adding the bp medication we are holding steady so far.  No seizures since that last one (and its been over 24 hours). Fingers crossed.

Fingers and paws crossed for continued  healing🤞🤞

As far as "sedation", ....did the Bet give you phenobarbital  or any other "anti seizure" med?

Thank you for sharing .  We all learn from each other, especially  when things "unusual" show up out of the blue.

So by sedation I meant that they want us to give the maximum dose of Trazodone to keep him calm.  We are going to pick up some anti seizure medication but after speaking with the vet we decided to wait a bit before administering it so we will pick it up and hang on to it as a backup if he has another seizure.

We are quite sure that he is at least exacerbating things with how frantic he was getting.  So we are trying lots of strategies to calm him down and distract him.  Plenty of treats, taking him for a quick break outside; he likes being picked up so just picking him up and cuddling him and walking around; gentle massages and also staggering his medications so that its not all wearing off at the same time.  So far he is resting a lot more and it seems to be working for us; I know it hasnt been all that long but 1 hour at a time... 🙂

One hour at a time, one calming session at a time, lots of cuddling, and patience. You guys must be so worried! But what you are doing sounds really good for his overall health and keeping him calm right now. Great job!

I agree with the decision to what and see on the anti-seizure meds. We did that with Jerry, and he never had another one. Hopefully you guys will get that same kind of outcome.

Just to give a brief update - we are still doing well.  Fingers and toes and everything else crossed.  Its been over a week since the last seizure and he has steadily improved to the point where we have almost stopped the Trazodone and I definitely see his old spark returning.  I think we probably didnt have a good handle on his pain as he was about 1 week after the surgery when things went haywire - and we just didnt anticipate that.  His vet also recommended that we see a cardiologist to rule out any heart problems so we will get that scheduled soon.

Thank you both for your support and warm wishes!

Thank you so much for checking in. Needless to say we've all been hoping things were going okay. Your update is definitely great news!👏👏👏

Yeah, not finding the right pain management   balance for each specific  dog or cat can be so frustrating. Being in pain while trying to heal can play all sorts of havoc on their nervous  system....basically their overall system.

Thrilled to know ge is doing well and getting back to being  himself.  We're  continuing  to keep everything  crossed👍👌🤞

OH YEAH! I'm so happy to see this good news. One week and no seizures is a great sign!

I love that your vet recommended the cardio doc, that should really put your mind at ease and hopefully reveal nothing unusual. Make that appointment soon, they can have a long waiting list.

What a great gift to know that he's doing better. Thank you for stopping by. Hoppy Pawlidays!

1 month post op!

Voshkey is doing really well & seems to have significantly reduced pain, we are close to weaning off the gabapentin & the stitches came out and the wound itself looks great.  He wants to get back to his old activity levels but of course he gets tired much more easily 🙂  so we also purchased a stroller so it would be easier to take long walks with the family and let him out as needed.

V has also not had any more seizures.  He will be seeing the cardiologist next week (that was the earliest appointment they could squeeze in) but other than that he is doing very well.  I am obviously hoping that it was some combination of carprofen + pain + stress that caused it and that it will not happen again!

It was definitely a hard process and the first 2 weeks made us question ourselves, especially because he didnt have any pain with the sarcoma and was putting full weight on his leg.  But I'm glad we were able to get through it and now we will go through the next few follow ups and cardio visit and just enjoy our time with him.

I will keep posting his story as well so any new visitors to these forums can hopefully learn from us the way we learnt from all of you!

Wow! Look at what you have both accomplished in one month! smiley_clapThis is such great news, it always makes us hoppy to know how a member is doing. Voshkey is a Super Dog! I love that you got him a stroller too, how is he liking it?

Thanks for taking time to share this great news with the community. It absolutely helps others on their journeys too.

Absolutely thrilled to read how well Voshkey is doing.👏👏👏

You stayed strong, you stayed the course and you stayed optimistic, as hard as that had to be in the beginning. Any of us question our decision those first couple of weeks where you had such a rough ride. You're so glad that things have worked out.

Thanks so much for the update and continuing to share his journey. We always say every recovery is different and it's full of ups and downs like a roller coaster ride.  Voshkey added another layer to "expecting the unexpected" during recovery.  You have a very resilient pupper, a very good Vet team and you are cbery devoted  advocates .

Looking forward  seeing some video of Forrest  enjoying his new Chariot.😎
