I am not sure if I am more ANGRY, UPSET, or GUTTED!!!! what-evermadsad

We have come so far and are doing so well, then BANG...lets slap a sixth cancer at Sandy.

WHY????? For such a well natured loving affectionate pooch, why her???? We've been through soooo freakin much already - when is cancer going to get the message that we WILL win EVERY TIME & we WONT give up!?!?!?!?!?

What concerns me is that Sandy is 13.5years old now & with age comes worries over anaesthetic. This is a worry in itself, then we have to await results for the type of Sarcoma they will be removing Friday. That waiting time again for results!! sad

She has one on her cheek which is benign but being removed whilst under and the one on her chest.

Six unrelated cancers...why did the chemo not wipe every cell to have prevented this last one.

Ugh...well here we go...i just pray it is not as bad as the last one and if we can get through amputation, we can and will get through this together.

Does anyone have any advise on older dogs undergoing anaesthetic?

Wooooaaah, I am SO sorry to hear this. What exactly is going on? I didn't see an update in your blog.

As long as your vet is in a full-service practice following the latest guidelines for anesthesia, there is little cause for concern even for older dogs. I know it's easier said than done though. I'm so sorry!

Tell us more. Did they aspirate yet?

Grrr...this just stinks!! Unbelievable!!

I have no advice ro offer, just solidarity in your anger and frustration!

I tell ya' what rhough, this Sandy is an amazing Beacon of Hope for everyone beginning this joirney, especially those more "mature"!

And gosh, it's been one year and four nths since amputation and she has been doing amazingly well!

I'm just so sorry you are dealing with this, especially after overcoming all her challenges so brilliantly! Just like always though, Sandy isn't worried about a thing.

Sending you loads of hugs and the positive healing energy of the Tripawd Universe! Like always, we are right here by your side!

Lpve and hugs

Thank you for your response, and you're exactly right...Sandy is Sandy...happy and continuing to enjoy life's adventures, walks and hurdles like always.

Just breaks my heart for her that my best friend, fur kid has to go through more when already having come so far.

They aspirated on Sunday just passed as the lump had grown since the last visit but I was concerned about the new one on her face that had grown and petrewed from her skin. That one surprisingly is benign but the other is the worry of the sarcoma.

The vet said it doesn't appear to be linked to her amputation cancer which I hold onto as a positive aspect on it all. But non the less it needs removing and identifying as to what type it is through having the lump analysed once removed.

i pray that once cut out it poses no further issues but it's so hard to stay holding on that hope when so much has happened previously. Even six times later it doesn't get any easier even when I fear the worst every vet trip over her lumps and bumps knowing deep down here we go again. The fight to hold back the tears.

I know she's aging now too and that petrifies me, but she's just so incredibly amazing and strong that nothing says stop! Everything says keep battling and it's her that I get the answer from each time to fight.

Just wish and hoped that by now she would be clear of cancer or there would be a miracle cure.

We are determined that this will not defeat us.

Absolutely let the tears flow girl! No reason to hold them back...not here...not with us!! A good cry seems to be quite productive sometimes!!

I know it's hard not to jump ahead and to go to the worse case scenario, especially with your past experiences! And maybe, just maybe this time will turn out to be nothing more than an old sge fatty lump.

No matter what though, you will find the strength to deal with whatever "it" is because your love for Sandy is sooooooooooooo strong!!

Sandy is a ...err...very "mature" gal and clearly has a zest for life! She lives everyday to the fullest and, if she slows down at all, it will be to her ,"senioritis", and not to any piece of crap disease!

Now go give her a big smooch and a tummy rub...and a few treats...and watch her tail wag! All is well in Sandy's world!!way-cool

Lots of love!

Absolutely! That is the best attitude to have. Remember, cancer doesn't have to be a death sentence, but you know that already. Look at how far she's come! The best way to look at it is a health condition that needs managing (and a good butt kicking!). Once you know exactly what you're dealing with you can come up with a plan that will show cancer who's boss. Until then, remember that Sandy doesn't care, she just wants her pack to be happy. Hang in there OK?

Thank you thank you thank you!

The 10pm food curfew is nearing...confusion over having bedtime yummies now...routine...she thrives on routine! This is out of routine. The fear of the vets will start tomorrow when we reach the vets. I will feel sick all day whilst she is there and will be a wreck handing her over to the nurse as she hates going through those doors. Never gets easier.

Will have the guilt of no breakfast before leaving the house too. Okay, live in the here and now!! Tomorrow is not upon us yet.

Off to smooch and squeeze my fur kid.

Will update as we get home and settled.

Sending lots of love and healing energy...and calmness.

.aybe the vet will let yiu go back and stay with Sandy whike they prep her? Maybe? Just show them your calm and confident energy, and maybe that will help. It's a long shot, but it's worth a try.

All.paws crossed Dawnie. We'll be looking forward ro her getting out of surgery and being able to eat a few hours after she gets home!

Love!

Well Sandy and I are back home. Chicken and rice consumed and snoozes under the blanket had. She's laying on her wounds (face and side) so can't be too sore. She done that with her amputation site also. To me it'd be too painful to rest on it but she appears to be at ease on it.

Check up due Monday then stitches out the following weekend.

Lots of cries when i collected her - from Sandy I must add. I kept my emotions in check this evening. Think I dried out my tears this morning dropping her off.

Her wounds are neat. Fur needs to grow back again now. Poor baby. They coordinated her bandage to her collar which was trendy. Haha.

Pain relief to start Tomo morning to keep in check. Previcox prescribed. The fun of smothering them in butter to get her to eat them will begin early.

So pleased to have her home and proud for her continuing strength and resilience. Now to pray that the margins and lump removed is gone forever without any further concerns.  The dread wait for results now.

Check up today & vet is pleased with her wound. Stitches out this coming weekend. Results are still not back as yet! way-confused Hoping no news is good news.

They have prescribed Previcox for her elbow as seems quite arthritic with only having one front limb and placing most weight on it. Does anyone else have any other suggestions with regards to vitamins for this as well? Need to keep that remain limb happy & in tip top shape.

Of course, consult with your vet on these suggestions: Dasequin supplements...perhaps Adequan injections. Previcox may be in the same family as Rimadyl or Metacam so don't know if o e or the other may be helpful. Perhaps acupuncture?? Turmeric is "supposedly" an anti-inflammatory that may help.

Again, ot a vet and not giving vet advice. Jist some options you may discuss with your vet.

REALLY glad ro hear she had a good check up and she handled surgery so well!

We're cheering for you Sandy! You are an amazing gal!
