Tomorrow my best friend Tami-Bear goes under the knife to have her front right leg amputated after finding a bone tumor last Thursday. I'm full of stress and anxiety and hope all goes well.  They will do another chest x-ray to make sure her lungs are still met free (fingers crossed) before surgery to make sure amputation is still the right option. I'm so glad i found this site as it has provided me with hope and a lot of good info on what to expect.

Hi Jillyfish,

I'm so sorry to hear about your Tami-Bear's diagnosis, but you've come to the right place!  You'll find many of us on here, including myself and my kitty Jill, dealing with bone cancer.  Please feel free to ask any questions you may have!  I know it is a frightning time, I remember it quite well.  Jill had her back leg amputated ten months ago, and it feels like it was yesterday!

If you get a chance, come on over to the chat room , there's usually one or two of us in there and we can answer any question/provide support in real time!

Here's wishing for a succesful surgery and beautiful, clear lungs!

xoxo,

Erica & Kitty Jill

Jill is a 9-year-old tuxedo kitty. She was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma in June 2012 on her toe in her right hind leg. Her leg was amputated on 12/12/12 and she completed four rounds of chemo (2 of Carbo, 2 of Doxy) in April 2013. Gosh, thisis such a stressful and scarey tme. We all understand the fright and almost sheer panic that takes over.

You are doing the RIGHT thing foryour Tami Bear!! She will be pan from from that horrible bne causing her all that discomfort.

Recovery is o picnic for avout two weeks...maybe less...maybe a little more. But once recovery takes place and you see Tami Bear's sparkle come back bigger and brighter than before, you, and she, will be so thrilled!

Now, I know you've been navigating around here so you have prepared yourself as best one can. So now, TRY and relax and let the tension go......take really deep breaths in and exhale slowly. REALLY! THIS WORKS! But.....only if yo do it!

Here we go......B R E A T H E deep breathe in.......B R E A T H E...exhale slowly..... B R E A T H E.........B R E A T H E ..........B R E A T H E........-

Now, top that off with some chocolate candy and ice cream. Heck, through in some Twinkies too!!! Just one though!

We'll all be here waiting to celebrate with you when Tami Bear is out of surgery, okay? So stay withus! you are NOT alone! We are by your side!!

VIG HUGS TO YOU! Really huge hugs! Now give a hug to Tami Bear for us too! Remember, toda is jjst another day to be loved a d spoiled as far as Tami Bear is concerned......THAT'S what you can focus on today, okay?

Sally and Happy Hannah

I am sorry to hear of the diagnosis of bone cancer for Tami-Bear.  You have come to the right place.  My Sassy had bone cancer too.  She did really well with her amputation.  The first couple of weeks can be ups & downs and that is very normal.  Like Erica said there are several of us that hang out in the chat room (if i can sneak away from work during the day I am there otherwise I am there in the evenings).   This community was a life saver to me.  Don't hesitate to ask questions

Thanks for all your kind words and support. Tami handled the surgery yesterday very well.  She is doing great today, I picked her up a little bit ago and the vet said that she is "truly an amazing dog".  She ate breakfast and took her meds and pooped and peed this morning. When I picked her up she came hoping out waging her tail and was happy to see me. The car door was already open and I anticipated having to lift her into the car but before I could even do that she hoped her her front leg into the car and stood waiting for me to lift her the rest of the way. Her vet was right there with us and was amazed and was hopeful for a quick recovery. I couldn't be more relieved right now.  I know that recovery wont be easy but I'm enjoying this small victory right now. i'll be sure to put up some photos soon.

Celebrate all of all those little victories! Add first pee and poop to that list, I had to wait 6 days for first poop.
I hope Tami's recovery is smooth, we are here to help when you have questions or need support.
