I posted this on FB this morning and thought you guys who aren't in my FB family, would like to know as well.

We are three doses away from finishing a
round of prednisone. She is way down on her weight - I'm taking her
Friday for a weigh-in, but I'm guessing 10 - 12 lbs. I've started her on
Missing Link, and she is getting around AMAZINGLY well. We just came
in from outside and she was RUNNING around the yard!

Just briefly, we had put her back on Rimadyl to get her moving well again and she was making progress.  Then one day while Bob mowed the lawn, she chewed a big raw spot on her hip.  I went and got the prednisone to get that healed up and the allergies in check.  Of course we had to stop the Rimadyl to give the prednisone.  I know the prednisone has a lot to do with the improvements I see, but just seeing her get around so well is uplifting.  She is following me around the house again, and going outside as often as she can con someone into taking her.  She had a nice visit in the yard Saturday with my mom and my great niece.  Skylar is just about nose high, so Trouble was really having a great time trying to get a kiss.  Why I didn't get a picture, I'll never know!

I'm hoping once the prednisone is complete, we can keep the momentum going with maintenance Rimadyl and the Missing Link.  She has really done a big turnaround

Shanna, that is great news. It sounds like the veggie/cottage cheese diet is working! A 10lb loss is pawsome. A picture would have been nice but I have a beautiful visualization.  Anyhow I'm really happy for you and Trouble.

I just came in from having her in the yard and took a couple of pics.  I'll haven't even downloaded them to my laptop yet.  I'll try to find a decent one and upload it to this topic later this evening.  I've got to hit the shower and head out.  Going to a casino martini 'event' with a friend.

Missing Link is a supplement that has been around for years.  I think it was originally formulated for horses and now they make products for dogs, cats, and birds.  I remember my dad giving it to our horses 30 years ago. The intent is to supplement any vitamin/mineral that is 'missing' from the diet.  It has all natural ingredients and several different formulations.  The one I chose was wellness blend plus which is vegetarian (because of the allergies - beef and shellfish in particular), the regular formula contains beef liver.

Many years ago I had considered using it because at that time it was touted as significantly reducing allergies, but since Trouble was allergic to just about everything, I was afraid to give it a try.

When I started the home cooked diet, I knew she needed a supplement.  Most of the pet vitamins have beef flavoring (a no-no), and other questionable ingredients.  So I went back to research the Missing Link.  I've since discovered a few of my PBT friends use it with good results.

Oh, and it also contains - alfafa, as Gayle's mom has mentioned in topics before for arthritis.  I don't think I have used it long enough to say it has given me remarkable results.  I think what we are seeing now is the prednisone.  Biut with a few weeks behind us, I hope ML takes up some of the slack.

That's great news that Trouble is doing better. Wow and 10 - 12lbs- that's amazing! Sounds like Trouble would make a great spokesperson for Jenny Craig or nutrisystem for dogs. Way to go Trouble!! laugh

My sweet golden Mackenzie.  She became my angel on Dec 29, 2010 at the age of 8 1/2  although she was always my angel from the time we brought her home.  She was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in Sept 2009 and officially became a tripawd (front leg) on Nov 5, 2009.  She will be forever in my heart and now she's running free with all of our other tripawd heroes.  I love you Mackenzie!

Oh MY DAWG!

10 lbs!!   I'd be running around the yard, too if I lost 10lbs!  Sign me up also for the Tripawd Fat Camp! (Sorry, Karen – I use the derogatory term – I call a spade a spade!)

That's great she could lose the weight even on the pred!  (remember my, "sat up all night and ate Cheese Nips" when I took prednisone post!)

I'm so, so happy for you and the Trouble family!!   I know that has to ease your mind seeing her enjoying life!  Plus, we have 3 more week or so until the big 12 year birthday parties!  We'll go off of Trouble's birth date since I don't have one.crying

Shanna, how long is the vet making you wait in-between Rimadyl and prednisone?   I'm just curious. I've been told a week.  I've asked for some for Comet for months and my vet's are so reluctant.  I still haven't been given any.  I just want a shot or a quicky fix to help her get around and get rid of some of the inflammation since I believe she has neck or spinal disc issues.  The muscle relaxers at bedtime are helping her so I guess I'll just accept that  I can't get any.  But I could score some from my mom if I needed!  (Just scored 60 tramadols from her she never used!)

GO Trouble!

Her Retired AvatarComet - 1999 to 2011

She departed us unexpectedly  January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.

She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
