Hi All,

My beautiful, sweet 10 year old Rottweiler Baron was diagnosed with osteosarcoma back in 10/13.  We had all the heartbreak, confusion and anxiety about the right decision as many of you have.  We elected for amputation and 6 rounds of Carboplatin.  Baron did amazingly!  Has been doing great for 2 1/2 years until just these past few weeks.  I brought Baron into the vet this past Wednsday and he was diagnosed with a second cancer, hemangiosarcoma.  We are heartbroken. And he is not doing very well but we don't feel it is "time" yet.  Baron's full littermate sister was diagnosed with hemangiosarcoma this past October and was basically at deaths door when her vet suggested a last ditch attempt using Yunnan Bayiou to help stop the internal bleeding from the tumor on her spleen.  It worked!  And she is doing fantastic 6 months later.  My question to anyone with experience with this product out there......what should the dosage be with a 110 pound dog?  My vets office is very unfamiliar with this product and telling me 1 capsule twice a day.  But online they say for any dog over 66 pounds should get 2 pills, three times per day for a total of 6.

Anyone with experience with this? Your help is so much appreciated!

Hi again Patty, I'm glad you started your own thread.

Again- I'm sorry you are dealing with a second cancer, I know a few here have faced hemangio.

I do not have any experience with Yunnan Baiyao but there is This Post in the Nutrition Blog about it including some links do dosage recommendations.

I hope it works for Baron.

Thank you Karen.  I have read that this product is a miracle worker and has saved many dogs, or given them more time, when there is internal bleeding.  Dosages seem to vary on everything I have researched.  Hopefully someone on here may have some personal experience with this product.  Thank you so much for your kind words.  We are heartbroken and desperate.

http://www.dogc.....g-cancers/

I know there jave been others here who have dealt with this specific piece of crap so maybe they will chime in with .ore specifica. I woud certainly...with a Holistic Vet guidance, get Baron started on it.

Over two year osteo survivor...WOW!! Talk about an inspiration....WOW!!!

Patty and Baron, I'm sorry you're coping with hemangio, that's a heartbreaker for sure. Just remember that Baron doesn't know any different, he's still himself and loving life every day. We've seen dogs live way past the typical statistics for hemangio, so just keep pawsitive and live every day to the fullest.

Do check out the post that Karen shared with you and also you may want to find a good holistic vet to work with. Our Tripawds Resources Page has links to directories.

Best wishes & hugs to you both. Keep us posted.

Thank you so much everyone.  I needed those words of encouragement this morning as I am really down this morning.  Baron did well overnight but he is weak and clearly not himself.  We did start him on the Yunnan Bayiou which is refered to in the link on thursday, as well as the Corioulus PSP mushroom extract. Hoping for a miracle.  Still unsure of the dosages for the Bayiou as Baron is a big dog at 107 pounds.  My regular vet said one capsule twice a day but he is not familiar with this herb at all and is not a holistic vet. But the website said two capsules 3 times per day for a dog of his size.  So confusing.

The Dog Cancer Survival Guide vy Dr. Dressler refers to dogs over 60 lbs. 2 capsules 3 times per day. He also siggests five days on, five days off as one method. I'm certainly not a vet, but, for me, Dr. Dressler and his book carry a lot of weight. I gave you the link above.

Do you jave access to Baro 's littermate vet? Perhaps they can reassure you of the doses.

I know it's hard not to think the worse when our dogs jave a "less good day" during this part of the journey. Try and take it one day at a time...ups and downs....good days, less good days. Just continue to make everyday with Baron even more than spectacular than before if that's possible!!

Also, you may try and get a quick phone consultation with Dr. Charles Loop(s) out of North Carolina. Sorry, don't jave his phone number handy. He's a Holistic vet and may have some options for you. Let them know you need the consultation asap.

How is his attitude other than a little "blah" today?

Let's keep this post active as I knkw others will have more input. Know that you are doing EVERYTHING possible for your boy! Clearly he is a Miracle Doggy! To beat osteosarcoma is a stunning victory for the entire community! Stunning victory!!

Try not to worry about the tomorrows...today is all that matters! Let NOTHING rob you of your todays!!

All paws crossed for Baron! Cheering for him!!

Lots of love!

Your the best Sally!  Trying to be positive but its hard today.  He is panting and clearly uncomftorable at times, then he seems a bit more at ease.  Yes, I am waiting to hear back from his Sisters vet.

He is a miracle.  He kicked osteo's butt!!

I will keep you posted. Thanks again for the words of encouragement.

JJust checking in quickly before I go to work and I get to see Baron's avatar picture! I'm so jlove! He's so majestic!! Adorably majestic!!

With yiur vet's guidance, wonder if yoh coukd give him a small dose of tramadol just to ease any slight discomfort he may be having. But if he's resting comfortably, may not be necessary. Gums pinkish?

That Baron, I keep shaking my head in disbelief that he beat osteosarcoma! He will be our heroic light of hope furever!! 🙂

Will look for your update when I get back.

Come on miracles...and. .miracle mushrooms too!!

Love and hugs!

Anymore lictures of handsome? Make sure you have so e of the two of you for your family a@bum too!

Baron is a gorgeous boy.  Even better, he has the best temperment of any dog I have ever been around.  I will post a few more photos later.

His gums are slightly pale.  I gave him another of the Yunnan and am hoping it kicks in soon.  Prayers for my big beautiful boy.

Our last black lab, Bauer, lived 9 months after HSA and a vet who wanted to put him down!  We opted for Splenectomy and it was not too bad.  So, if that becomes an option....don't shy away from it.

HSA is my arch nemesis.

We used Artemisinin and Astragalus for herbs.  We used Previcox and Doxorubicin for drugs.

Hang in there!

I am so sorry to hear about the hemanio.... we battled that cancer and along with cancer and the therapy you mentioned, we got 8 months vs the 1 - 2. I don't know the dosage but I see other have provided you some good links.

I can say that we also did have our spleen removed (how we found the cancer actually). As you know, since you've been down this road, it's an ugly, ugly cancer ....

Sending you love and healing energy!!!

Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. My sweet Baron is now an angel.  He lost his short battle to hemangiosarcoma yesterday morning.  We were so fortunate to all be with him, my Son came home from college to help him cross, my Daughter, Husband and myself.  There are simply no words to express our sadness.  He was such a special boy and inspired so many after losing his leg and bravely fighting off osteosarcoma.  His loss his so deep and he will never, ever be forgotten.

RIP my most beautiful boy.  I will miss you every day but look forward to someday meeting you at the bridge.  I love you Baron.

I'm so very sorry to hear this. My heart is breaking for you and your pack. He was such a beautiful fur-baby. Peace be with you.

Time doesn't exist at the Bridge, you are already smooching your Baron in the place that Love built.
