It's sooooo great to see all this invaluable input and support shared among our kitty members!! Nothing like firsthand experiences to help each other!

Most of us with dogs can only cheer you on and not able to offer much insight!

So to each of you.......A STANDING OVATION AND WE ARE ALL CHEERING FOR YOU!! 🙂

Thank you both for your replies! I will have to see if my husband, who is handy with woodwork and building things, can make somes stairs for Twister. I really liked your stairs in your blog Purrkins! clap

I would love to see Twister adopted with his baby, but the baby will be ready for adoption in a couple weeks while I have no idea when to offer Twister for adoption. While I have entertained the idea of keeping Twister myself, I unfortunately can't keep both of them. Twister actually loves playing with any cat or kitten who will play with him, so my house would probably be a good place for him since I have a constant rotation of mostly kittens coming and going. I will have to give this some thought and consult with the others in the rescue so we can come up with what will be best for Twister in the long run.

Speaking of protecting his remaining limbs, I got quite the scare yesterday!! Twister was playing in the living room on an old throw rug I put down for him and I was in the kitchen on the computer. All of a sudden I heard him crying (he has a high pitch cry, so I knew it was him), so I went to see what was wrong. Well the rug is frayed and a long string had unraveled off of it and was wrapped around his remaining back leg. His leg was folded up on itself like a jack knife and he was struggling and had flipped over, so the string just got tighter and tighter. For a moment I tried to unravel it, then I just went and got scissors and cut him free. I shudder to think of what could have happened if I weren't home! Either his circulation could have been cut off or there could have been some other damage, and that is the only back leg he has left. My house is usually very kitten proof because of all the fostering I do, but that rug must have unraveled like that in the couple weeks it's been down.

Thats crazy , glad you were home and were able to unravel him or cut him out!oh-my

Thats even better if your husband can make some stairs.  Google DIY pet stairs . I can only speak for Purrkins he uses them going up and down to his favorite spots.

We didn't want him to have to lose his favorite spots after losing his leg so we added the steps.

Our other cat Saxton uses them too. Not all kitties are the same but they can be taught to use them with treats. Once they see its easier for them.  Twister being so young, really is a benefit for him he is not used to being on all 4 he will adjust even quicker.

Whatever you decide to keep him or to adopt him out. Keep us posted . heart He is lucky to have you! All your kitties are!

Thank You for your kind wordsheart Fostering is just such a part of what I do now that I don't even think much about it. When I saw Twister for the first time, I knew I had to take him in and get him help. Even though the lady who brought him in offered to do what she could, there was no way she had the means to or knew the scope of what he was going to need. Even I wasn't sure if my group was going to be able to fund his care, but we managed to tell his story on multiple platforms and also create a funding page for him.

There sure are days when I get discouraged at fostering and I want to quit or at least cut down, but there are so many needy cats and kittens out there that it's hard to say no. I came to terms many years ago with the fact that I can't help them all, but I'm thankful for the ones I can. It's probably my greatest accomplishment in life so far since I never had children.  I think I get as much or more out of it than the kitties I help. big-grin
