Good morning to everyone from El Puerto de Santa Maria, Spain, yesterday I registered in this forum that the oncologist recommended me, and it has helped me a lot to get mentalized about the issue of amputation. I tried to introduce myself in the chat, but I was not able to talk to anyone, I'm terrible with technology.

I am nervous about the operation, we are going to leave her at the vet in an hour   (9:30 in Spain). I hope I do not start crying but I see it difficult.

Your stories have helped me a lot and I hope to do well in the postoperative period.

Hola Manuel! I'm sorry we did not connect in the Tripawds Chat yesterday. We saw you in there, but did not get a reply. It's easier to post in the Chat from a laptop if you are able.

Jara es muy bonita! What is her age? And what kind of cancer does she have? She looks very athletic and able to do very well on three legs. I'm so happy your oncologist told you about us. Please thank them for us.

Amputating a leg is scary. We understand your fears and concerns. I'm so glad you found comfort from the stories here.

Please post any questions you have. Check out the What to Expect articles , and let us know how she is doing OK? We are sending lots of love to you and Jara.

Awwww sweet Jara! Three years old is so young! I'm sorry it's osteosarcoma. If it's any comfort, many dogs live way beyond the general prognosis. Our Jerry lived a happy life for two years after he was diagnosed, and occasionally some dogs go as long as 5 to 7 years! Stay hopeful OK?

I hope she has good pain management . Did the vet give you any medication for her? If so, what kind?  pain management is sooo important for a good recovery. That, and lots of rest. Do you have other dogs in the house? If so, you want to make sure she gets lots of rest right now and doesn't play too much.

Bringing home a dog the same day of surgery can be tough. Jara may be anxious, or act strangely. Try to be patient, and rest together. She may not want to eat which is normal. Just make sure that she gets lots of water and that she doesn't slip around on any uncarpeted floors. And ask any questions you'd like OK?

I have been told that life expectancy is 1 year, but it is different for each dog.

I hope Jara has a bit of luck and will be with me for a long time.

The medicines he has given me are: cimalgex, adolonta, amantadine, semelxef. And for the first 24 hours I am injecting him with lidocaine every 4 hours through a catheter.

I have two dogs plus another border and a winemaker.

Thank you so much for the tips

now she's sleeping

Aww sweet Jara, she looks very comfortable. Those are good pain medications you received for her, what a terrific clinic.

If she seems anxious or too sleepy and unable to stand by tomorrow, let your vet know. Many dogs need their medication adjusted.

Sounds like she has a lot of company to keep her entertained. Keep her activity level very quiet right now, her body needs lots of rest.

Stay optimistic and hopeful, she's a strong dog and should do fine on three legs! Let us know how the day goes. It's evening here so I will look for your post in the morning.

At night he drank a lot of water after a while I took it out to the garden but did not pee.

She got into the cage by herself and she was very calm all night.

Now 4 hours have passed and I have given her the next dose oflidocaine. She is calm.

P.S. In many photos you will see that her tongue is sticking out, it is not the effect of drugs,  that is normal for her, she always has her tongue out is a custom that she has from birth, we have the whole house drunk  je,je,

The vet has seen the videos and told me to keep her under control without her moving too much through the stitches

Oh my gosh your dogs just made me smile BIG! smiley4 She is precious! So are Bella and Leidy. Thanks for sharing the videos.

She's a spunky, energetic young girl and it is hard to keep a dog like her quiet, but it's so important to keep her calm, just like your vet said. You don't want the stitches to come out, or for her to get a seroma (fluid build up). It's hard but you can do it! Try to keep her entertained with simple interactive brain games (see the link for ideas).

I noticed that your floors could use some traction with no-slip (rubber-backed) rugs that will make it easier for her to walk and not hurt herself. It's one of the best things you can do for her to keep her from getting injured.

She sure looks like she's having a good recovery! Thanks for the fun update smiley_clap
