Hi all, let me tell you about my little girl.  I have been reading some posts and I must say that I feel lucky in regards to my little Tripawd.  She did not lose her leg to a disease or traumatic experience, well I guess it was traumatic now that I think about it.  She was born with all four legs but her mom was over zealous when she cleaned her up and accidentally took off the lower part of her back leg from the knee down.  So this left a stump that she holds up and out for balance, hence the chicken wing!  She is a tiny little 11 pound Boston Terrier (or Terror as we call her).  She rules the roost at our house.  All the other dogs do what she says! twisted She is so sweet and cute that most people don't even notice her missing leg at first and it sure doesn't stop her from doing anything that she wants to do, except scratch her ear and make a sharp left hand turn winker!

I work in the Veterinary field and I see this all the time.  They are so amazing!  They just take everything in stride.  If they lose an eye, we think, oh how will they make it?  But they say, well I have another one, I don't need 2.  Same way with an amputation, their philosophy is, I'm ok, I hav 3 more.  They are so inspiring with their determination and spunk.  They come back in for their suture removal and it is like nothing bad ever happened to them.  They come bouncing in, most of them, give us kisses and seem to be genuinely happy.  I love it!

It does make me sad when the diagnosis is OS though.  I lost my first boston terrier to this devistating disease.  I noticed a link to a particular treatment that I am looking forward to reading about when I get the time.   These dogs, and cats, still have great spirits right up till the very end.  It makes you take a step back and examine your own life and how you deal with difficult situations.

I look forward to reading about everyones babies and making new friends

Oh, and I forgot to mention.  She is 2 years old.  I have 2 older bostons that I rescued, Abby and Boomer who are both around 10 years olld.  I also had a blind cockapoo that passed a couple of years ago when she was 15.  She had been blind since she was 6 so I am no stranger to a dog with a human perceived disability, they don't see it that way!

Awww, Welcome Robyn and family!

Speaking as a mom of a 12 year old leg defect dog, I can concur with everything you said!   Oh, and mine is horrifyingly spoiled, too!  I wonder why?

She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.

Hi Deb,

Welcome to Tripawds!  Robyn's 'wing' must be on the left side.  My pug Maggie was a left rear amp.  She could pivot to the right like no ones business, but going to the left was one of those wide sweeping turns.

Many people didn't realize that Mag was a tri-pug, partly because she got around fine, and partly because she was so little.  Some did ask sometimes why she was limping surprised.

I am still owned by pugs; I have Mag's little sister Tani who is 10, and about 4 months ago I adopted a 4 year old boy named Obie.  I must admit I had gotten used to a slower pug pace, having a 4 year old around a bit of a challenge- but in a good way.

Looking forward to learning more about you and your pack.

Welcome Deb, Robyn and the rest of the pack

What a cutie Robyn is. "It makes you take a step back and examine your own life and how you deal with difficult situations." It most definitely does. During this past year Fortis has taught me so many things. He has in a sense forced me to take a step back! And boy oh boy was there a lot of room for improvement........who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks big-grin.

Thanks........looking forward to hearing more.
