Thank you all. I talked to the oncologist, and she's seen the biopsy results. She thinks it's a type of soft tissue sarcoma, but it's not showing any signs of high malignancy right now. There's also a possibility it isn't cancer, although that's less likely. This was just a fine needle biopsy, so she wants him to come in, and possibly get a punch biopsy, or some imaging. Unfortunately, the next timed appointment isn't for 15 days. I can drop him off early, but he'll likely be stuck there until 4pm. They'd get to him throughout the day when they have time. I just don't think I can put him through that stress, when she said it's not an emergency right now. He's in great spirits, and it doesn't seem to be giving him any pain. I'm really conflicted. I'd hate myself if he was sitting for an extra few weeks with something that turns out to be higher grade than we think right now. This boy is far from done.

Aww that big ol fluffball, it's so nice seeing him on video.

So how bad are vet visits for Riot? Sometimes it's worse for us than it is for them to leave them all day. If he's super anxious at the vet, they could possibly mellow him out with Trazadone while he waits, if that's an option for him.

Honestly I wouldn't want to wait that long, only because it would drive me crazy. The sooner the better for sanity's sake.

Unfortunately, they're awful for him. It's also a trauma ER, so very high stress. If he wasn't doing so well, I'd have him wait. He took the longest walk he's done since the amputation, and still got up the two porch steps on his own today. The oncologist felt we could wait two weeks. If there are any changes, we'll do the drop off. He's also on the cancellation list. I'm honestly sick over waiting, but I don't want to set him back more than I have to.

Okay, I see your response to Jerry, as well as the additional  input from the Onco.  Based on your extremely  close bond with Riot and understanding  him so well, another tenish days sounds like the Onco is completely  on board with that.  AND, equally important. as well as Riot is doing and as stressed as he gets at the Vet, ESPECIALLY an all day "imprisonment" (in his mind) in a high stress environment.....yeah, good decision.  Even doing a "punch biopsy" is going to be a bit painful anyway.  And this gives Riot another ten days to continue  to get stronger and be more Riot!!

That's  my 1 cent worth.  I think the Onco jas a good handle on things and doesn't  seem to be too overly alarmed based on the aspiration.

Hines too goodness, Riot is one of THE most photogenic  dogs on the planet!!  And he always wears his favorite color with such flair!  Yes, dogs do, indeed have certain colors that bring out their most beautiful handsomeness!!😎

Well, I couldn't sleep last night worrying about him. So we're going to do the wait appointment. I'm just going to stay with him. We'll hang out in the waiting room, instead of him going in the back. They don't know that's what I'm doing, but I'll talk with the intake once I get there. I'm pretty sure they'll be fine with it. They really do care about their patients. I'll hopefully have more of an update tomorrow.

Okay, paws crossed fot an uneventful  day.    Stay calm and upbeat energy.  Take some treats with you.  He'll think being at the Bet is a great thing!!  Be sure and give him a drive thru cheeseburger  on the way home for being such a food boy.

Thank you. We're hoping for simple solutions. He's been favoring his right front ankle a bit off and on, so I'm glad it will get checked, along with his new lump. He won't ever eat when he's not in a house. He's been like that since he was about a year old. He'll get plenty of stew when he's up to it. That's his favorite right now.

Ahhhh OK. Yeah that makes sense and since it was an oncologist who made the recommendation then that would sit well with me if I were in your shoes. It won't be easy waiting but putting his quality of life at the top of the list is most important and you are doing a GREAT job of that!

I'm so happy to hear he's walking so well and doing stairs! smiley_clap

He wasn't able to do any stairs today, so I'm glad we're going in. I hope it isn't too long of a wait.

Poor baby. So do you think that's been the reason why he's had so many struggles on the stairs?

I don't think so. The lump is pretty recent. It also doesn't seem to affect him at all, as it's just sitting on the skin of his ankle. He wrist joints seem to be a bit more sore lately. I think that may be his biggest hurdle. And confidence. Some days he can do them, and some he can't. We're hoping he just need some different noninflammatory meds. Fingers crossed. He'll be 13 in March, and I want all of his remaining time to be quality. It would improve his life dramatically if he could do more stairs, even if it was always with help. Even the few just coming up the porch consistently would be a big deal.

Ah, OK. Glad the lump isn't doing anything mean to him as far as messing with his mobility.

Well, we all have those days don't we? Riot is managing them better than most of us do, I'm sure!

Yeah it can't hurt to try a different med for the inflammation. We'll keep our paws crossed for more improvement.

So, Riot met with the oncologist. It thankfully wasn't a very long wait. The lump isn't cancer! The cells were strictly inflammatory! I just got the call, and had to edit my original update, which was more inconclusive. He does have some increased arthritis in his front leg, but we're going to try a new supplement to add to what he already takes. Couldn't have been better news.
