you might try a crate, or an ex-pen if you have one. i didn't let gayle be 'un-peopled' until her stitches were out and i was confident she could get up and down by herself.. she had her older 'sister' jane with her - and her nurse kitty mr. murphy, both of them really took care of her when we were out of the house...

Life is good, so very, very good!!! Gayle enjoyed each and every moment of each and every wonderful day (naps included). She left this world December 12, 2011 – off on a new adventure.
Love Never Ends
Hi evryone,
Nala has been back with us since wednesday and she is doing much better. She is no longuer in pain, she takes her medication (thank god for hamburger meat, she swallows it without bitting) and I am able to help her go potty outsied.
My mom is taking care of her while we are at work. She still sleeps for most of the day and doesn't get up to walk around but she is much more alert.
A lot of stress has been taken off my shoulders. Its been one week since her operation and we are going the right way.
Melina, Larry, Enzo the beagle and Nala!
Welcome to you and Nala. I hope that her recovery is smooth. The first few days are so stressful, but when you know what to expect its a little less scary.
Others have said it, but I will too...a teaspoon of peanut butter worked for us to hide the Tramadol. I think it makes him lick and swallow, rather than bite down. Hope you find your 'trick' soon.
Wishing you all the best for a smooth recovery! It's nice that your mom can be with her while you work.
Keep us posted. We're here if you or your mom have questions,

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!
This is terrific news! It's wonderful you have help!
I hope you have an uneventful recovery for Nala!
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
