Come on Chance- you are our Quadpawd Warrior Princess!

I know how it is dealing with a second cancer- Maggie had two.  She did so well with the mast cell, kind of thought we beat cancer.  But, there are all those lessons we learn the first time around to help us though the second time.  As long as she is feeling good today there is hope for tomorrow.

just got back from the LONG drive from Chance;s oncologists well they did biopsis's again, poor girl whole belly is shaved and her side so they could get to the kidney...........they have to be 100% sure this mass is NOT osteosarcoma, as if it is not the cancers they suspect it is will and can be treated with oral chemo........if she starts on chemo she is out of the clinical trial that has literally been saving her life............really sucks here you think your girl is gonna beat the odds and she ends up with another cancer, and you just cannot ignore that cancer you have to treat it or she will loose her battle than all is for naught! only option is we can get this new mass under control and than continue on with the Zometa, which i will have to pay...$3,000 to $4,000 @ month, its only money right????? well we will see one think at a time, i do have an option to meet with the head of the clinical trial to try to convince him to put chance back into the trial, which i believe is keeping her alive....bottom line the priority now is the mass on the kidney, which was found by accident, the rest will fall into place, this whole journey has shown me chance must have an angel watching over her, everything was found by accident, there is no way they would of known about this mass if she wasn't anemic{licking bricks} that level is up today so she is better something is working for My Chance today................as always thanks for listening, will keep you posted...do not care what the dr. says i am taking chance to her "puppy park" on Friday we will be in the 50"s in chicago.....and she needs a break and just be a dog on Friday!

I am praying for good news for you.  Want me to write a letter asking for them to let you keep her in the study because I will.  Anything to help you & her.  Also all the information that they are gaining is going to help dogs/pet ownerswho need this study done.

Good for you for letting her be a dog.  Prayers again for both of you.

Oh what a day you both must have had, I know you've gotta be exhausted. I can't believe you're dealing with another cancer, it's just not fair darnit. I hope you get to go back into the trial, it was so great for Chance.

I agree; let her be a dog, go to the park and enjoy the sunshine. Tell Chance we are sending our love and all our strength for a better road ahead. xoxo

I hope everything works out. Hooray for the "just let her be a dog" attitude. It's no fun for a pup to always be a patient. Hope she has a wonderful time at the puppy park!

Jackie, Angel Abby's mom

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. okay so here is our update, as you are aware, they found a mass on Chance's left kidney, did biopsy, tested negative for lymphoma, now they are testing for histiocytic sarcoma, praying it is not this cancer, as the prognosis is very grim....i was suppose to hear from her dr. by now, but no call, my last conversation with her was Friday when she gave me the good news that it is not lymphoma, she said one of the pathologist still believes it is osteosarcoma, so im waiting, she told me Friday that Chance is still in the trial, and if the mass turns out to be osteosarcoma, they will continue her on the trial, no chemo. my concern is the trial is probably the only thing keeping her fracture in tact, the zometa infusions. if that mass is anything else but the osteo they want to treat it with chemo, i did express my concerns about her not being in the trial anymore, but they said the priority is the mass on her kidney, which i believe is osteo, and so does Chance's vet {she called me yesterday to check up on Chance} what would you guys do,,if it is sarcoma as i said it has a grim prognosis, even chemo is not successful. do not want to to take her out of the trail, although, do i risk her life......quess maybe i should wait to hear what the diagnosis is.......and of course, my husband found a marble size lump behing Chances left ear today.....this poor girl cant seem to get a break,,,but she is a fighter and survivor, so proud of my Chancey.....once again thanks for being here as i have another melt down...

I think you need to wait and see what you are facing before you can decide- and you need to find out what the lump behind her ear is.  You need to know if you have one cancer with mets or more than one.

Then what I would do is a sort of triage- what is she facing, what is the most dangerous, what kind of treatment options are there, and then decide what makes the most sense for Chance's quality of life.

This really sucks, and is really hard, especially if there are multiple health issues to address, not one cancer (which by itself is horrible enough).  Maggie ended up fighting two cancers and kidney failure, so I know a little about what you are facing. I made all my decisions with her life quality in mind- not life quantity.  We always talk about it here, Be More Dog , but these are the times that really make you live it.

I am hoping for the best possible news for Chance and your family.  We are here to help, what ever news you get, and of course are always here for melt downs.

Karen said it best and knows from the heart.  This is really hard to deal with.  I feel for you.  Luckily, your lady doesn't quite know what's going on.  I bet she still looks at you with tons of love and admiration.  Give her a hug and then another.  Wait it out to hear from the vet(s) and talk it over with Chance.  She may be able to help you decide. Until then, we're sending best wishes your way!  (((HUGS)))   {{{{Belly rubs}}}}

ACL tear in right hind leg 12/5/12 and scheduled ACL repair surgery 12/21/12. Pre-op xrays revealed osteosarcoma. Amputation 12/28/12.  Chemo (carboplatin) started Jan 10, 2013 and ended on April 5, for a total of 5 doses. He handled carbo like a champ!  No side effects.  We started metronomic therapy at his third chemo and have been also doing some holistic treatments.  He's a lively, playful 10 year old huskie-boarder collie and a very proud member of the Winter Warriors!  Our love. Oh boy.  Try to breathe.  I agree with Karen, get the facts, talk with your doctors and then decided the best course of action to give Chance the best quality option.  My heart goes out to you. I know how difficult this must be.  In amongst all the stress try not to forget to be "more dog".   Enjoy each and every moment with Chance. Don't let the cancer take that away from you.

many hugs

I agree with everyone, you really need to know exactly what you're dealing with before you can make any decisions. I know the waiting must be making you crazy, I'm so sorry. But yeah, get the facts, and then decide what to do based on the most pressing, time-sensitive challenges she is facing. Ideally it would be great if she can stay in the trial, but again, it all depends on what the most serious issues are. I think you have a lot of great minds there to help figure things out, rest assured you have an excellent team.

I'm so sorry you're dealing with all this, it's a lot to cope with for sure. Remember though, like Jackson's Mom said, Chance doesn't know what is going on. She is a strong girl, and needs you now more than ever to be strong too. Hang in there OK? And of course keep us posted.
