Have you heard of #this_is_houston ? I have watched an amazing rescue that they did, the dog was a mess. His name is #this_is_thomas_the_train . Anyhow, they are an amazing rescue group, totally stole my heart. Maybe they can help coordinate a foster home for these poor souls.
It's amazing how you rescue each other, i have been there myself. Sometimes the world aligns just so you have the opportunity to make a difference in a life that makes a difference in yours

Thanks Jackie! I will check it out. If I wasn't going thru all this bull I would keep them. Im afraid someone might do something bad to them.
My Beautiful Beloved Brownie was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma on February 26, 2019. With all odds against him he lived an additional one year and eight days with amputation, love, and prayer. I was honored to be his mom, and I have never been so proud! He will live forever in my Heart!

Yes, i understand. I don't know if you have IG, both of them are there. Thomas' story is one of the most horrible situations i have ever heard of. Even after all I've seen it was just so much. It's even too graphic for here, but he is doing fantastic now and this group is just amazing. That dog wouldn't have lived without them and now he is thriving.
Whether they end up in your home or another, you are an angel for watching over them. Like i said before, you rock

Ditto Jackie on this post and the one or two before!
First, on the "strays". Find someone who does facebooger and have them post pictures. There's something called Next Door App that maybe you can have someone post pictures on that. Also, maybe a couple of neighborhood kids would put up flyers for you.
I know you have too much on your plate right now to deal with this, so enlist the help of some computer savvy facebooger peiple, the signs and that app.
For now, they are clearly safe, together and happy with you I just be their owners are looking for them.
Now, onto more important things, BROWNIE!!!! Yes, your Vet has certtainly been wrong before....three months..HA! Brownie had other plans!! To think he is getting ready to celebrate ONE YEAR is spectacular!!!! And that is due to your care and his Warrior heart
Plan Brownie's pawty....heck, start the pawty now and throw him a pre celebration eceryday leading up to Wednesday!! Pictures!! Lots of pitures!!!
Hugs

Hey Nancy, how is he doing today?
I don't know how things can change so quickly either. I've seen it happen sometimes, sadly. But every time it does, these amazing saints with paws show us how to make the most of living with this disease that breaks our human hearts. They are truly amazing, always.
Are those visiting dogs still hanging out? I'm afraid I don't have any good ideas there, but isn't the Houston Humane Society a no-kill shelter?

Hi Nancy.....I am SOOO late in seeing this. Sorry to hear about the lung mets - cancer sucks! Just wanted you to know we're thinking of you and sending prayers for what lies ahead of you. Give Brownie a big hug and smootch from us.
Paula and Warrior Angel Nitro
Nitro 11 1/2 yr old Doberman; right front amp June 2014. Had 6 doses carboplatin, followed by metronomic therapy. Rocked it on 3 legs for over 3 years! I'm sorry to hear about Brownie's lung mets... cancer is such a nasty bastard.
For Maggie it wasn't mets but another cancer but I think the feeling is the same, in some ways more devastating than the original diagnosis.
I don't think it is possible for you to love that boy any more- treasure each moment.

Thank you everybody. He actually had a good day. He even went outside. But when he came in he Was breathing so hard and fast. His vet said he can't have presidone and pain medication because it will be dangerous to his kidneys. But at this point should kidneys be a concern?
Tanner and Freckles are here. I used to volunteer at the Houston Humane Society and they are a great organization but also always over populated. I do not know about other states but Special Pals is the only real no kill shelter. The others claim to be no kill shelters. What they do is if the animal isn't adopted in a certain amount of time, they send them to the county to be euthanized. They are just two of the sweetest dogs. Tanner looks like a lab mix, and Frecklez maybe Jack Russell. But for now they have my garage and food. That is the brst i can do. I sent some emails out ti rescues today. But for now my focus has to be Brownie. Does anyone know what he can take to ease his breathing?
Attitude wise he seems to be doing better on this new CBD. It is his breathing that concerns me. His vet seems to th ink it's time, but I don't think so.

Good days are always a blessing, im glad today was one of them
I hear what your saying about the meds vs the kidney damage. I actually had this exact conversation with our vet when we tried to tapper off roane's pain meds. Fortunately they were in agreement.
What is Brownie taking for meds at the moment? Maybe if they cant add the prednisone theres something else they can try. Or maybe something homeopathic?
Comfort and love, from there follow brownies lead. The vet might think its time but thats brownie's call.
As for freckles and tanner im sure there greatful to have full bellys and a safe space to sleep until a solution can be found.
Sending you extra hugs and extra belly rubs for sweet brownie.

Just to piggyback on some of our previous correspondence, he is on some pain meds, right? I mean other than the Deramaxx he just started. I know the conventional wisdome is he couldn't have Pred with the NSAID(Deramaxx), but if he has only been on the Deramaxx a couple of days, the washout period would provably only be 24- 48 hrs. Of course, check with a Vet.
Brownie hasn't shown any evidence of kidney issues, right? So there should be no reason he can't have Gabapentin or maybe Tramadol as needed if his breathing is causing hom stress until he settles down. . I don't think he would prescribe the Deramaxx if he has kidney issues.
But yes, at this point I wouldn't be concerned about the kidneys, but focus on keeping Brownie happy and comfy.
I'm glad he is still being Brownie, even if its not full out crazy wild Brownie, he's still enjoying him self and that good.
Sounds likeTanner and Frexkles will get some of Brownie's celebration treats on Wednesday! Gonna be a great pawty!

He Sally
I'm waiting for the dermannex to come in, so he hasn't started it yet. He has been on Gabapentin and a generic Rimadyl. He has never had kidney issues.
Are you saying he can not have the dermannex with presidone? If he can only have one which is more important? Breathing or pain?

Okay, the Rimadyl and Deramaxx are in the same NSAID family. And a steroid like Prednisone cannot be used at the same time as a NSAID like Rimadyl or Deramxx.
The reason my Vet prescribed Prednisone is because it could possibly reduce any inflammation caused by the mets, thus, in theory making breathing easier. Happy Hannah did not have arthritis so was not on any NSAID. I really don't remember how long I tried the Pred or if it really had much of any impact. She never really coughed anyway.
Because Brownie has such bad arthritis, it would probably be more beneficial to him to stay on rhe Deramxx (or generic Rimadyl) and use the Gabapentin for additional supplemental back up for pain
If I recall. I think you told me Brownie's breathing "settles down" once he starts resting again, and that's good. Je's not interested in running a marsthon at his age anyway.
To state the obvious, I AM NOT A VET AND NOT GIVING VET ADVICE. I am merely sharing my experience and my UNPROFESSIONAL understanding of the Pred, NSAIDs, etc. All is just in the "for whatever it's worth" category.

Thank you Sally. I appreciate anyone giving input. As long as the hack is not painful I think you are correct focusing on the pain management . That hack just sounds so horrible. His vet said he could have cough medicine, so I picked some up today. Hopefully it will help. He still has a good appetite and enjoys his cookies. I really think this CBD is helping with his mobility and attitude. I'm going to call his Hollostic vet tomorrow to see what she thinks, maybe there is some kind of home remedy or something. His GP doesn't believe in that.

I'm so glad he had a good day yesterday, that's awesome. When Jerry had a hard time with the mets, the length of his outdoors activities got shorter and shorter but he didn't lose his enthusiasm for doing them until right before we set him free, maybe a day or two.
You are amazing for feeding and sheltering Tanner and Freckles. That is a lot that you are doing there, and I'm sure they are grateful for it. Your heart is huge my friend. I wasn't aware of the no-kill issues at shelters.
I think that it's a good idea to work with your holistic-minded vet at this time, and even have her do a quality of life assessment on Brownie if you haven't had Lap of Love do that yet.
Did I share this post with you?
