Yeah it's definitely a much easier way to to injections. And you're not a coward if you're doing them at all. Good for you!

I ordered a roller massager for dogs. It's for the neck and spine. Hope it works.

My Beautiful Beloved Brownie was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma on February 26, 2019.  With all odds against him he lived an additional one year and eight days with amputation, love, and prayer.  I was honored to be his mom, and I have never been so proud!  He will live forever in my Heart!

Oooh now that's a new one, I had no idea they were out there. Can you share a link? I may need to tell others about it in the Tripawds Gear blog and of course get one for Wyatt!

And you’re not a coward if you’re doing them at all.

I second that!

When I got Maggie at 10 weeks old my uncle gave me everything I needed to do all her vaccinations, I was sure I could handle it...

When it came time to give her the first shot I just couldn't do it!  It never came up again until I had to do sub-q fluids.  Mag hated the vet by then and I couldn't imagine taking her there every other day.

What's that saying? Necessity is the mother of injections... or something like that smiley4

Thanks Karen. You just reminded me I need to give Brownie his injection. Lol

The roller massager is by Pet Wellness:

PetWell Back & Neck Reliever Handheld Massage Roller Pets (Dogs, Cats)

I found it on Amazon for six bucks, so I thought what the heck. It should be here today. I will let you know.

Hey I forgot to answer your questions:

What is “occasional TEN units use”?

I've been meaning to blog about this. A TENS unit stands for "transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation." People use these little devices all the time, and animal rehab therapists also prescribe them. According to this article in Medical News Today, here's how it works:

TENS units work by delivering small electrical impulses through electrodes that have adhesive pads to attach them to a person's skin.

These electrical impulses flood the nervous system, reducing its ability to transmit pain signals to the spinal cord and brain.

The same electrical impulses also stimulate the body to produce natural pain relievers called endorphins.

As for your other questions:

Do you use ice for cold therapy and switch back and forth every few minutes from hot to cold.

Yes. This article explains how: Heat Ice Therapy for Tripawds

When an injury is no longer acute, switch back and forth between ice and heat as follows:

Apply ice for five minutes, heat for 5 minutes, then ice for 5 minutes. Always end with ice.

Lastly, you asked about Farabloc blankets:

I saw those pain free blankets in the gear shop. Do you know anything about them?

Yes. What they do is block electro magnetic frequency waves, which have been shown to cause pain in amputees and delay wound healing. The science behind it is explained in this blog post, Healing by Removing High EMFs for Animal Amputees

I don't blame you for being skeptical, we were too! We have one for Wyatt and saw that he did gravitate toward it to lay on. I stole it from Wyatt and used it for migraines. It helped alleviate them. Did it get rid of them? Not entirely. But I felt the pressure was lessened.

If you read the article you'll see that other animals respond with even more interesting results. Many studies have also been done that show it works. And we have had human customers tell us the Farabloc was the only thing that worked for their pain. But one thing to keep in mind is that like anything, results can vary from person to person, dog to dog. A multi-modal approach is best when managing pain, so the Farabloc blanket, along with good pain management work together to promote healing.

Hope this helps!

So I got the massager and I have to admit it is made really well for 6 bucks. I have us2d it on Brownie a few times and he seems to like it. When I stop he will turn and look at me like he is saying "why did you stop". Massage then heating pad seems to make him  Happy.

Now can someone remind me why humans are the superior species to animals.

That apparently  is a myth that was perpetrated by someone who has  never been owned and trained by their dog😉

So glad the massager sounds like a winner.  I think our Admin Guy just found another item to negotiate  to put in our Gear blog .😎

I agree with what you say Sally. I just always here, " that's different were humans". And I'm like animals have feelings too.

And yes I am trained by my dogs,  and a little too trained. Lol...

Yea I had someone say to me "I can't believe you are going to have Brownies leg amputated ". So I said well would you have your arm amputated if it could save your life? He said "That different I am human". I don't get it....

I use to feel bad for Brownie,, because there was people that Brownie really loved that he doesn't see anymore. They say They want to remember Brownie the way he was. But now I feel bad for them because They missed on how awesome Brownie does as a senior tripawd! Their loss, not Brownies.

By the way, the massager is listed for 14.95 on the pet wellness site, but I got it on Amazon for 6.00. They have several, but I got the one for the spine. It saves my hands. I have arthritis in my hands, so after being on a keyboard all day it helps me as well.

I agree, it's their loss. People either get it or they don't. I feel sorry for the ones who miss out on all the lessons animals like Brownie are teaching us. He's a superstar!

Thanks for the tip on the massager. I'm glad it's working for you two.
