Hello everyone!

Today, my fiancé, Ryan, and I adopted a rescued 3-5-year-old Maltese/Yorkie (the rescue society's best guess) named Millie. Millie was found five months ago wandering in a nearby rural community. Her fur was very long and terribly matted, and her rear leg was previously broken and unfortunately not properly taken care of, so it needed to be amputated. The rescue society also believed Millie experienced abuse, particularly in the head/facial areas because she refused to let anyone touch her head or face. As the weeks progressed, Millie was comfortable with people touching her back, and working their way up to the top of her head. To this day, however, if someone reaches out to touch her head/face, she still recoils and appears afraid.

As soon as Ryan and I met Millie, our hearts melted. She was a bit apprehensive at our first meeting, but during our second meeting, she cozied up to us on our couch and enjoyed back scratches. After that, there was no turning back, she was a part of our family!

Millie enjoys short walks around our neighbourhood. She's very playful and LOVES toys that squeak, and is getting to know Annie and Bonnie, the two guinea pigs who live in her domain. Neither Ryan or I have previous experience with a tripawd, so we are elated to have a website like this to learn more about how to best care for the newest member of our family.smiley

Welcome to Tripawds, your future posts will not have to wait for approval.

Congratulations on your new addition!  She is adorable.

My quad-pug Obie came from a rescue group and was not treated nicely by his original owner.  I've had him for 5 years and he is still head shy.  I usually tell him when I am reaching for him so he is not startled.

My Tripawd was a little pug named Maggie who lost a rear leg to mast cell cancer. She could do just about anything she wanted, but couldn't do long stair ways.  She could do a few stairs, and she could go down anything.  I also got a stroller for her, and believe me I NEVER thought I would be the type to push a dog in a stoller!!  I had a younger pug who needed to walk much farther than Maggie could manage, the stroller allowed her to always go with us.  Mag could walk as far as a mile on her own, not every day, but usually she walked a shorter distance.  I also like do break her walking and riding times up.

Here is how to add photos to your post.  Looking forward to more pics of Miss Millie.

Tri-pug Maggie survived a 4.5 year mast cell cancer battle only to be lost to oral melanoma.

Welcome to the family!!

What a beautiful story of how a dog can be transformed just with love and tender patience. I'm sooooo happy shenhasnher forever home with you!

Good luck on trying to not let her jump down off things...but try anyway. .Non slip scatter rugs if you have hardwood floors for traction help keep them from slipping. Joint supplements, maybe some fish oil or sardines in her meals
You can download Jerry's books for great info....http://download.....-library1/
