Hello!  My name is Lucy and I'm new here...

As you can tell by the photo below, I'm an adorable, 7-year old Shar Pei.  I became a tripawd about 48 hours ago due to multiple mast cell tumors that were spreading locally on my right back leg.  Mom really wanted to save my leg, but the MCTs were tricky and wouldn't give us much for margins.  Now that the pesky cancer has been removed, I should be a completely healthy pup (even in  my current state of 3-leggedness).

I was up and hopping a few hours after surgery.  The surgeon, oncology and surgery vet techs, and even the receptionist at the hospital say I'm a rock star and should make a complete recovery.  I can't believe my mom was so worried about me!

I'm enjoying some quality time with mom and loving the extra treats and attention.  I'm sure we'll be checking into the forums often as we adjust to a new way of life.  Hopefully the rest of my recovery goes as smoothly as these first two days.

Lucy (and her mom Jen)

Welcome Lucy!!! You sure are adorable!!! Here's to a speedy recovery ... we're ALL here for you!

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

HI LUCY AND JEN!!!

OMD! Lucy js adorable!!! Cannot wait to see more pictures and videos of this precious pup! You can just tell Lucy is full of personality and love!
It sounds like Lucy has a great group of professionals watching over her!!

Sometimes, not always, but sometimes several days after surgery and when all the hospital meds wear off, dogs may feel a little off and not wanting to move much. Usually it's just a matter of letting them rest and recover and maybe adjusting pain meds. Lucy seems to be ahead of the curve already though!!

Enjoy your time together and continue to spoil and love like carazy...pretty sure you're already doing that masterfully!

Hugs to all!

Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle too!

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!

Lucy, you sure are a cutie! love your name too! I have a Lucy, her full name is Lucille McGillicutty from I Love Lucy! She will amaze you at how well she adapts to 3 legs. My Tripawd Daryl was doing so well by the time we got him from the rescue that I kept forgetting that it had only been 8 weeks since his amputation. Keep us posted on her recovery. This is a great place for questions or concerns. Someone here has experienced just about any scenario you could come across. Lori, Ty & the canine 3

Ty is a proud member of the " April Angels". Ty sent us Daryl, a Tripawd rescue in Sept. of 2016. Daryl is 5 +or -. We are also Pawrents to Chandler, a Border Collie mix who is 15 and 1/2, Lucy, a Corgi who is 7, 2 minis, 2 horses, and a feisty cat named Zoe. She is now close to 20 and her hobbies are eating and sleeping in front of her personal heater.

Welcome Lucy and Jen.

What a beautiful face! My little pug Maggie lost her left rear leg to a mast cell tumor.  You can read her story if you are interested, the links are in my signature below.

I hope Lucy has an uneventful recovery.
