Thanks for the compliments on my kids. Yes, that's Duke in the avatar. He's the reason I'm on this site - osteosarcoma and thus left rear leg amp.

I'm not much help really with regard to the biting and chewing himself. Could be fleas, although maybe not since you've looked and given him a bath, or some type of skin issue I suppose. I'd check with a vet. A few thoughts - you might want to try a flea preventive. It is flea season. My sister has a chow who get hotspots and she swears by Zymox. (www.zymox.com) Absolutely swears by it for getting the hot spot skin sores to heal, and to heal quickly. I think she uses the cream or spray, but maybe the shampoo too. For dry skin you can give vitamin E orally and it will work from the inside out. I use either Nordic Naturals or Welactin on my crew (I have 4 dogs). But I'm not a vet! Just someone who has had, and still has, multiple dogs (4 currently). Oh, and a t-shirt or something can help keep Buster from getting to itchy spots on his body.

Yes, under normal circumstances Duke is a very sweet gentle boy. (Although he doesn't like to be disturbed when sleeping. That's a greyhound thing from their track and racing days.) Even under these trying circumstances he remains a sweet gentle boy. That said, yesterday the vet tech was helping me load Duke after yet another vet visit (we've had major complications from chemo) and she caught him on his stump and he yipped. No attempt to bite but it obviously hurt. He had his amp 4/2/12. So, since Buster had his even more recently I'm sure he is still a little sore too. Please be careful with Buster around your nephew. Sometimes kids just don't understand they have to be gentle with a dog, especially one that is still healing some. I'd hate to see anything happen to either your nephew or Buster. Terriers can be a bit nippy sometimes - Kodi tends toward the nippy side. Good luck with Buster! 🙂 He sounds like a lucky guy.

We definitely keep an eye on the nephew and Buster!  We've been working really hard to teach the baby how to interact with Buster.

I don't like being disturbed when I'm sleeping either 😛  Did he used to be a racing greyhound? Aside from Chemo complications how is he doing? How many more sessions does he have?

Thank you for all of your suggestions, we will definitely look in to them.  The shirt is a very good idea! I told my boyfriend that I'm going to put underwear on him because he's always chewing the base of his tail rasberry

Awwwww!  Welcome Buster!  I'm so happy he found you!  He's a dreamboat!  I can happily tell you that your $20 investment will make you super rich with happiness!!!

He looks like a black version of my little Monkeybutt Rocket when he was a puppy!

DNA testing said he was mostly beagle and schnauzer.  However,  Rocket's hair grew at about 9 months old.  Here's what he looks like now:

Don't think I'm crazy, but for itchy skin, try Murphy's oil soap.  Yes, the stuff for wood.  I was very, very hestitate to use it too but it is very safe and recommended by vets that are familiar with it.  There is something in it that keeps the PH balance correct for dogs and all that stuff.  You can google it to see what I mean.  I've been using it now for the last few months and  it does keep the hair softer longer than regular shampoo.  Rocket's hair is wiry too and it mostly looks like it needs brushing all the time.  I'm positive that the hair itself tickles them and can itch.  Rocket hates a halter because it makes him itchy (but he still has to wear one on a walk).

Before I adopted Rocket, I said I would adopt anything but a terrier.  Well, choices at the shelter were slim and he turned out to be the right size with the right demeanor toward our senior tripawd girl Comet.  Now, I'm totally in love with terriers!  They have so much darned personality (too much so) and are quick studies!  Fair warning....they know how to manipulate!

Lots of good wishes coming Buster's way!  Can't wait to hear about this experiences!

I thought that same thing - that Buster looks like a black version of our MonkeyButt Bunny Rocket!

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!

Now someone has to explain to Buster's mom what a Monkeybutt is!

Where's that Monkeybutt when we need him?

I'm back.

Comet, my tripawd sister was mean.  That's why they had to pick "special" me.  Because no one wanted to be around Comet.  She was very mean.  I'm nice.  Daddy picked me anyway, not mommy.  She fibs.

Um, helloooooo, aren't YOU the one wearing an eye patch??!!!  Duh.

Zeus

Zeus was a Husky mix diagnosed with Osteosarcoma at age 11.  A visible lung met and suspicious spot on his liver meant a poor prognosis-six weeks was our vet's best guess. We decided to fight for our boy and his right front leg was amputated on 12/1/11. We did six rounds of chemo, changed his diet and spoiled him completely rotten. We were blessed with 10 great months after diagnosis. Against the odds, the lung met remained a single met and grew very little over those months. A wonderful furbaby with the most gentle spirit, he fought with a strength that we never imagined he possessed. We have no regrets...
