Keepsmiln1818, I could have written your post. My 9yr old Rott/shepherd mix was diagnosed w/osteosarcoma about 3 weeks ago. She has moderate arthritis (she takes Rimadyl) and a fused lower spine. The 2 weeks it took to get the appointment with the oncologist were the longest of my life. The day we saw him (thursday 2/11) Sadie got her first chemo treatment, and on Sat 2/13 she had her front right leg amputated. Her tumor was actually in her scapula and we thought maybe they could remove the scapula and save her leg, but there was some muscle involvement that made that impossible. I get to bring my baby home in the morning and I can hardly wait. Her chest x-ray was clear and she will have 3 more chemo treatments. I visited her Monday and they asked me not to come back until I took her home (she thought I was going to take her home then and was impossible after I left without her) She has a lot of fight in her which is why I feel I made the right decision. As others have said, you will also make the right decision. My only advice is not to let Henri's age or size make the decision, try to make it based on his (and your) constitution. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this tough time.

Sadie is my 9yr old Rott/Shepherd mix. Diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her right scapula 1/28/10. Our brave girl had her amputation 2/13/10 and her last chemotherapy on 6/6/10. Unfortunately, a tumor appeared in her back right leg and on 10/7/2010 Sadie's earthly journey came to an end.  On 10/24/2010 we adopted Ranger, a handsome Rott/Lab mix tripawd (got hit by a car) I think Sadie sent him to us.

Just wanted to say hi and welcome you to the group.  I so wish we didn't have to welcome any more osteo pawrents, but what a wonderful place for support for those who have to take the journey. Henri is a beauty and so lucky to have found you those many years ago.  Fate brings us together, faith keeps us strong.

Listen to your heart, do tons of research.  I have to admit, it wasn't until we picked Trouble up after surgery that I knew we had made the right decision. When she hopped out to greet us, she had that tentative look trying to decide if we were ok with her new appearance.  As soon as I spoke to her and gave her a hug, happiness took over, the tail wag started and we've been happy ever since.

Welcome Sadie33!  I can't wait to hear about your baby coming home!  Happy day!   YOU HAVE TO GET A PIC!   I can't wait to see your rottie/shep mix!  We loves our rotties and sheps!

Henri's mom,

You have to think to yourself how would you feel if you gave up?  Will you have guilt?  Guilt is a powerful emotion.  If you are not ready to give up on your baby, then be hell bent for leather to move forward and those that don't agree, be damned! (metaphorically speaking, of course!)

I keep saying this and I know I've hurt some feelings here by doing so...but do not get upset by what family/friends tells you to do.  They are subjective only to you, not your pet. As a loved one they don't want to see you get hurt or go thru the pain.    They also don't understand that dogs are fine without a leg. Some see it as being cruel. Just try to educate them and let them know that by doing nothing, you will be tormented.

You mean on Tripawds? No way, never. Most of us have had to ignore what the uninformed people in our lives tell us when they hear the lengths we will go to for our fur kids.
