In the last 3 months I have gained two three legged companions,

Lucy was a stray 6 month old puppy when she found me. I came home from work almost ten years ago to a black and white baby barking at me from my own driveway! She is now 10 years old and has been with me ever since.

Last June she began to have a growth on her back foot. The vet thought it was fluid build up and we left it at that. Fast forward to January and the growth had grown to the point that we decided to see if "draining the fluid" would work. When they opened it up, they discovered that it was a mast cell tumor. They stitched her up and sent her home, while we discussed options. I had an appointment to see a specialist, but a week later her wound was still not healing. The skin was starting to die around the incision, so we made the decision to amputate.

She healed up without a hitch! The Vet Techs were amazed by her progress within the first day. She went to the bathroom just fine and walked herself out of the vet when I picked her up. It has been two and a half months with no complications. We have both adjusted.

Last Sunday I went to an adoption event with her. I had been considering getting a companion for her for awhile, and wanted an older, slower dog. When we were walking around, getting the attention that tripods do, somebody stopped us and said that they had another three legged dog that we just had to meet! Rowdy was a little shy but quickly warmed up to Lucy. She has adjusted to him, as long as she gets attention too!

So that is the story of how I gained two Tripawds in 3 months.

Meet Lucy and Rowdy!!
