Hi everyone!  Jake is now 3 weeks post amputation and he is doing great!  I am so happy.  He has a rehab appointment in 3 weeks.  He is back to normal, except he hops and his ears bob up and down when runs 🙂. But he is so cute and adds so much joy to our life.  He can go up and down stairs, with supervision going down.  He loves his toys again and loves being outside.

Thanks everyone for helping us get through some tough times.  You were there for us and that means so much!

Hi Connie!  Jake is such a handsome boy!  Those videos really show how much of his sparkle is back and I know how thrilled you must be!  Griffin's ears flap when he walks now, too - makes me chuckle that he looks a bit like Dumbo.  What a great job you have done advocating for your boy and look how spectacularly that has paid off.  I am so, so happy for you and Jake!  sp_hearticon2 Stacy

Griffin lived an amazing life for 11 years! Diagnosed with osteosarcoma on March 17, 2020, Griffin's right forelimb was amputated on April 2, 2020. Ten days later he was running and playing fetch! Lung metastasis discovered in July 2020 did not slow down Griffin and he lived joyfully for the next 7 months, passing peacefully at home on February 11, 2021. https://griffin.tripawds.com

These videos just fill my heart up with so much joy!!!   You and Jake are definitely  "passing on the hope" and showing everyone  staying the course thru recovery is well worth it!!  Look at that happy boy!  Jake is loving life and so glad you gave him the gift of pain free, fun filled time with so much love😎

I .love the toy he has.  It's perfect for a front legger!

And he does look adorable with his bouncy head and ears👍

Thank you soooo much for sharing these videos.  It is soooo important  for newbies to see what it looks like when we say the sparkle will be back bigger and brighter than ever!!

Thank you Stacy and Sally!  I love tripawds so much!  Everyone is so kind and supportive of each other....Stacy, I love following Griffin, he is absolutely amazing!  And Sally, what is the best way for me to read your story?  You are always here for us but I haven't read about you and your furry friends yet...  ps:  is there an easier way to respond to someone rather than writing in your own post again?  There's a chance that person may not see it because why would they go into your post if they just read it...Just wondering...

Today Jake helped me to corner a chipmunk in my walk out basement and send it outside.  I actually thought the chippy was out but Jake persisted with his but in the hair sniffing/whining and, sure enough, I lifted a piece of furniture and  it scurried out the door.  Jake's detective skills are as keen as ever.  LOL  (ps  didn't get it on video)

Also, I realize my days of super long walks with Jake are probably over...we'll see.  So I am thinking we might spend more time on our own land so I'll do a garden with some of my time...!  I'll trade one pleasure for another.

Last night I was watering some of my perennials and the whole time Jake was under the deck where there is rock/sand etc and he was digging holes, looking for any animal he could find.  He seems to be having lots of fun even though we aren't woods tromping like we have done so often in the past.

Hi Connie!  I'm so glad to hear that Jake is finding pleasure in old and new activities!  And while gardening sounds very relaxing, don't give up on the pleasure of long walks just yet.  Jake might need a bit more time to build his stamina, and you might not be able to go every day, but I have a feeling that he loves those walks just as much as you and might make it back there again.  I know Jerry recently posted about a pet stroller too, so that might be an option (depending on the terrain of your walks).  Keep the photos/videos of the charismatic Jake coming - I love seeing him in action! ~ Stacy

As Stacy was saying don't give up on the long walks yet. I have seen Arktik getting more stamina days after days. I believe it is really a matter to go at their own pace in the recovery. But also, as you said having fun in the garden can be really nice too. I do play with Arktik quite a bit on our property and he enjoys it a lot.

Jake's on skwirrel patrol, look out! Great job Jake!

You are so right about re-thinking activities with him. That's exactly right! Dogs love walks in the woods but they also love to just hang out and watch wildlife and be with their humans. Between that, playing interactive mind games and just bonding on the couch, it's the ultimate dog's life! Plus, for longer walks out in neighborhoods and such, a pet stroller is a fabulous idea. We love the one we got for Wyatt Ray and wish we would have gotten it a long time ago.

Thank you for sharing these precious and inspiring videos of Jake! I'm a nervous mama and we take her tomorrow. I worry a lot about her never being able to enjoy the things she loves... though I would be okay if she didn't dig up my flower beds anymore haha.

Watching Jake enjoy his life and hop about was exactly what I needed to see today. sp_hearticon2

And yet again tje wiesrionmos answered,  "Can a dog be hapoy on three legs?"  And Jake yells, YEEEEESSS!👏👍😎   We often measure "quality " by our own vision of what we thinks makes our fogs happy.

As Jake has shown you, he's perfectly  content sniffing out critters, going  on treasure hunts under the deck, playing with toys and being with you!   To sogs, it's not a put jow long they can walk, it's about what the scents on the breeze are telling  him about his enviornment.  It's about what's  hiding in the dirt and how far he needs to sign to "get it".

Jake is doing just fine happily  plotting his own path forward😎  Ypu have done such a good job fearing Jake to this point, and yes, it still gets better and better!

Hi everyone!  It’s been 4 1/2 weeks since Jake’s surgery and I thought I’d post another video.  With Jake back to himself our life and Oscar’s ( his “little” big brother) is way more exciting.  When Jake was in the hospital and recuperating, Oscar was not himself.  So now Oscar is happy again 🌼

I’m getting a stroller for Jake so we can get to some of our favorite places.  Some are too far to walk to and then have fun at so I think we need this.

I’m indebted to all of you for helping me get to this point with Jake.  You are all so wonderful 😆

Hi Connie!  Look at that focus and strength!  Weeks ago, I posted a video of Griffin doing a standing high-5 and received comments about how strong his core must be, and Jake is doing ten times that work with jumping and circling that tree.  Way to go, Jake!  I'm so glad for Oscar that Jake's sparkle is fully back and on display!  Your post about the stroller made me rethink the wagon I was using.  The biggest issue for me was getting something that I didn't need to pull and so I've upgraded to a wagon that has a push bar.  I can't wait until both Jake and Griffin have their new sets of wheels to show off!  sp_hearticon2 Stacy
