maggie did good at the vet today. She told me to massage it and to get her up every couple of hours.

She is doing real well. She seems restless. But, then again, so am i. Too much sitting around the last couple weeks.

she was funny today. At the vets we were waiting in the little room, i got up to use the bathroom i put my pocketbook on the chair so that she knew i wasn't leaving without her shut the door behind me and ran to the bathroom. I came out and everyone was laughing as maggie escaped out of the room and was belining it to the front door. She thought i was going to leave her again! Everyone got a big kick of the three leged dog running by.

All and all it was a good day. We are both ready to get out!

Glad she is doing well! She is so cute in her avatar! Looks like a very happy girl.

All the best,

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!

You sound so much better! That's terrific. A vet visit is always something that can put our minds at ease, glad you went. Why do they think the swelling was going on?

Life will get back to its "new normal" soon, hang in there.

I'm glad Maggie is feeling better- wow 12 years old!!

I know it is hard to sit still- but your time will come!  I was lucky in that regard- my Maggie was a slug during recovery, slowing her down was never a problem.  Of course she was a pug....

I hope your girl keeps getting better, I obviously have a thing for Maggies!!

The swelling was edema due to her not getting up enough and putting pressure on the back leg.

It is gone today but she is easily overworked. She was before this operation. Now it is even harder. It has been hot here the last few months and we havent been able to do anything.

She is 12. I went on a walk today and rethought my decision. I am not sure it was the right thing. She lived for exercise, walking, the woods, swimming. Now we are confined to our back yard and small jaunts. That is not what she likes.

I don't know.......................

I bet what she really likes is being with you... and the amp will give you more time together. When you are deep in the throws of the recovery period, and your pup is not back to acting like her old self, and you are a bit sleep deprived, those "What did I do??" thoughts can creep in. Give it time. It really should start to get better soon.

She will still be able to walk in the woods - it will just be shorter walks with more breaks. She should still be able to swim, in fact that is supposed to be great exercise for tripawds (I wouldn't know cuz Abby hates to go into deep water...)

Hang in there. If she is like most all the other tripawds out there, things are going to get infinitely better REAL SOON.

I guess the lesson here is go to the bathroom BEFORE you go to the vets! big-blink

Try not to worry about what not to do.  Exercise is good after surgery as long as she isn't running like a wild child!  According to Isabelle's mom who works at a hospital and is a nurse practioner, she said that exercise is important afterwards.  In human amputations, they have patients in rehab the day after surgery so the muscles don't get weak.

Now get some rest!

She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
