My wife and I went to the local Humane Society to find a companion dog yesterday.

We took home a beautiful female pit bull with brindle coloration. She looks like a tiger 🙂

Her name is Honey, and boy is she ever sweet. She was found wandering around with no I.D. in the snow back in February with a severe limp.

She had to have her back right leg amputated because of a shattered femur. I was told it was the only option.

She was a staff favorite, and when the adoption process was about over, the lady helping us spoke over the P.A. system, saying that Honey found a forever home, and that if any of the employees wanted to say goodbye, the should come to the reception area ASAP.

About 20 people mobbed the area, kissing her and hugging her. It was really touching. Evidently, she had several assessments on her personality, and she scored higher than any dog that had come through that Humane Society location. Ever. 😀

She doesn't really bark, she is very gentle, laid back, loving, and surprisingly she is already house trained. She is great around kids and loves to play with other dogs, and never barks at them.

She does get tired easily, as we have went around the block a few times and she needed to rest, but I expect that this is because she didn't have the opportunity to run around so much at the shelter. She also takes a lot of naps. Too much excitement, I guess.

But I will help her to build up more muscle mass so she can not have so much trouble on walks, and so she can navigate stairs with more confidence.

I am so excited to have her, and it seems that the feeling is mutual. She is home for good. 😀

Congratulations to both you and Honey. Sounds like the perfect ending. I am sure she is delighted to know she now has a forever home.

Tripawds do tire easily. We found Wrigley had to take frequent breaks on walks. We also found that it was much easier off leash where she could move at her own pace. We liked that better, so hopefully that may be an option for you.

Wishing you continued success.

Thanks for the kind words. 😀

Due to local laws, walking a pit bull without a leash is illegal. If she took off and darted in front of a car, I wouldn't know what to do with myself sf-cry

Maybe in a large field away from roads and other dangers.

Sounds like Honey is lucky to have found you, and vice versa. Bless you for saving her. Give her time to build up that strength. Don't overdo it and before long she'll be the one giving you a workout! Thanks for joining the discussion, we look forward to hearing more about sweet Honey.

Bless you for choosing a tripawd, and even more for choosing a pittie.  They are the best pets ever.  I have no doubt you'll have lots of happy days with Honey.
