Oh my gosh Patty, you are terrific, there's no patience involved with you. We think you're fabulous for being so diligent about learning about the Tripawd lifestyle.

There's no "average" recovery time because all dogs are different. "In general" we like to say two weeks is about the time when their sparkle starts coming back but that is a very rough guideline. Just like all people are different in how they handle pain, react to drugs, etc. dogs are too.

Her vet visit went well she is healing great! Her only health issue is that she seems to have a food allergy so we are working on figuring out what food will work best for her needs. She is going to start working with an in home trainer on Saturday to help her with some resource guarding behaviors. We want her to learn good habits and that this her furever home.

You are so on top of everything! She's very lucky to have found you.

I've had problems with resource guarding, too- the good news is that most dogs can learn to get past it with some help. I'm sure your trainer will have resources to offer you, but I like to read Patricia McConnell's writing on the subject to remember I'm not alone. I also love her book The Cautious Canine.

I have a dog who was mistreated when she was young and wasn't socialized, so she's slow to warm up to new people and dogs. The book has great ideas for working with dogs who are bit fearful.

One other thing I haven't seen mentioned is step stools- it looks like she's on a couch in one of those photos. If she likes to be on furniture and has trouble getting on and off, steps can be a good solution. My dog, Jack, loves being on furniture and I've found it helpful to have steps leading up to anything that's higher than a couple of feet.

thanks for that info I actually have the library sending me some books from that author!

She also starting guarding my husband too....She has claimed him as hers. Poor pup needs to realize we won't let her down.

Yes she is a couch pup for sure! but so far no problems getting up or off anything =)

I think attaching to a person is a cocker spaniel thing...I've seen that before.  What a lucky baby!  She looks like she's off to a great start with you!

Skippie is quite a treasure!!! There are so many dogs overseas with injuries.  I am glad he has you. My husband saw so many in Afghanistan while deployed there sad

We have two other Cockers and I have had Cockers for the past twenty five years. So we are pretty educated on the ways of the breed smiley But that doesn't meant they can't surprise us sometimes! lol

She is still having food issues. I think we may have to go to the RX food now =(

What a grrrrrreat picture! You always have to do a CUTENESS ALERT before posting all this cuteness at once though! Too much of a sugar rush all at once can be dizzying!

Thanks for giving us all a smile today!

Love to all!

Hi friends!

Here is a Clover update! She is doing very well and making good progress. We have had some cold weather the last 2 weeks (at least for us) here in Central Florida and she doesn't like it so much. It has caused her to have a few aches and pains. We have since found a new vet that works with dogs that need special care. So, we are super excited about that. She did give us some pain meds to give her as needed only. Her behavior has been improving greatly and she has become a super snuggle bug. She isn't too fond of anyone other than us but that is ok. Our next challenge with her is that we are going out of town in 2 weeks and we usually have a pet sitter that comes to our house 4 times a day to take care of our other 2 cockers so we are hoping that Clover will be at least ok with letting her in and out of the house. She is coming over this week and next to visit her. So cross your fingers that the visit goes well if not the Vet said we could board her there but I would rather her be at home what-ever On the food note, she has many allergies so....I make all her food and add a doggie supplement to it.

I hope all of your holidays were wonderful!

Thanks for the update...the really good update!

You are doing a wonderful job with Clover! She is sooo lucky to have found her forever home with you! Perfect home for her!

You have a relaxing time out of town and know that Clover will be just fine! It may even be good for her to realize she HAS to warm up to others if she has no other choice! I agree as far as the boarding goes, home is always the best option if possible!

Now how about some more pictures??

Hugs to all the pack!
