Hi. Now that Cheek officially has a home it is time to properly introduce him! Cheek is a 4 month old toy poodle that was born without a front leg. The family that had him had a female poodle and her son, neither of which were spayed/neutered. They mated and Cheek and a sibling were born. The sibling had 4 legs and Cheek 3. The husband said he should be taken to the pound to be put down. The wife took pity on him and called a shelter that took him in. I happen to be a volunteer at the shelter. We spent 4 days there over Xmas volunteering and there was no way the staff was going to let me leave without him! The question was whether my other 2 dogs would get along with him. After a week and a half they started to be friendlier and Cheek became an official part of the family. I'd post a picture of the three of them in this post if I knew how! We live in Japan and we are close to the beach (went there today) and rivers. Cheek will be getting his own float coat and will join his poodle brothers this summer as they swim. Now he is enjoying the snow and is basically one happy puppy!

That is awesome!

It's sad that people can be so irresponsible and uncaring.

I'm so glad Cheek found a wonderful loving home.

Yes, I am an American in Japan. Sadly we don't have nearly as many dog goodies here as in the US. When I go to the US for vacation I go with two empty suitcases and come back with them stuffed! Of course they are stuffed with dog things! The US postal service stopped surface mail (via ship) a few years ago. That means I get stuck paying for airmail if I want anything quickly.

Congratulations on adopting shuch a beautiful toy and reminds me of my two white Standard Poodles when I brought them home as puppies. For the record, poodles are Germin in orgin and were bred orginally for water retrieving. My Sandy would put many retrievers to shame the way she entered the pool and was able to swim. Cassy was just as good a swimmer, but would never get her top knot wet because she entered the pool via the stair. If you look very closely, I am sure that you would find that Cheek's toes are webed. While Cherry could swim very well, she really never showed any interest.

The Ruff Wear harness is excellent and allows for a lot of adjustment. I believe that Cherry's was a medium and I had all the front straps as tight as they would go. The Standard Poodles have a very deep but narrow chest.

Good Luck and enjoy your new family member.

Bob
